It feels impossible for me to think of the Phoenix Suns, and not think of Al McCoy. Despite so many amazing players over my ~35 years of intense fandom (to go along with another 5 or so from when I was too young to really remember much), my Mt. Rushmore of the Phoenix Suns includes Al and Jerry. There is only room for 2 players.

Yep, I'm damn near 60 (Wow! Scary just typing that out loud) and I remember being a little kid listening to the great Al McCoy. SHA...ZAM!

Zing go the strings!
Swisheroo for two!
Oh Brother!
Heartbreak Hotel!
You can put this one in the ol' deep freeze.

I feel pretty fortunate growing up out here listening to Al broadcasting the Suns and Vin Scully call the Dodgers games on KTAR and watching Roger Staubach just about every week on the Cowboy Broadcasting System (with Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshire).

It is pretty wild that he's older than Book. Book has something like 5 seasons on him, right?

For a minute or two on the Bally Sports broadcast, there was a simulcast of Al doing the game.
I enjoyed his style, and hoped the producer/director would have stayed longer with the simulcast.
The crew of K-Ray, EJ and Diggins-Smith last night babbled incessantly and missed some key plays ...

I remember listening to Al in the late 70s on a transistor radio. He was good then and great now.

I remember him doing radio broadcasts of Phoenix Giants games. And he was a Top 40 AM radio DJ in Phoenix at the same time ...

Yea I wish I could hear him more
I used to be lurking in the shadows as they say 🙂 in the early 2000s and you guys used to post the KTAR Radio link.

Back then broadband wasn't fast enough to watch games so I decided to "give it a try" because my uncle and dad always told me about their days of listening to games because there was no cable TV yet.

Needless to say I was hooked because that was 7secs or Less time and it felt like he had sooo many sayings plus so descriptive it was like I was still seeing the game😊. Doing the maths now, I would have never guessed he was around 70yrs young !
Awesome

He is very good at it. You can tell he started on radio. I wish they had an SAP broadcast with Al. There just isn't a good way to watch a recorded game and get to hear Al and still be able to skip timeouts and half-time.

I agree about Al and how good he is at describing what is happening, even at a fast pace. He might not get every pass or shot attempt, but you really don't miss much. The TV team isn't good at that. But I will say that Sky is really, really good at what she does. I wish they had her on every broadcast. She actually talks about the way the team is playing, what types of sets they are running, and is actually teaching about the game. Not just a bunch of "in my day" like from Eddie (who I still love) or really bad football analogies from Kevin.

This is Book's 7th season, which is just wild.

I get what Monty's saying - "perception = reality" in a lot of instances, especially to those on the outside. I also think he wants the team to stay grounded and focused, which can be hard when you're winning so much. Plus, with CP and Book out, the games are going to be tougher and put more pressure on everyone.
