I got to meet Al again yesterday at the retirement send-off Arizona Sports hosted for him! He was very gracious meeting so many people and taking photos, signing autographs, etc. It’s amazing how young he still is at 90! It was bittersweet but seemed like almost a therapeutic event for people after the night before.

I started listening to Al when we first moved to AZ in '93 when the Suns were in the playoffs. While I was in school at night the next four years and couldn't watch the Suns on TV I would rush out to my car between classes to listen on the radio to catch an update on the score. I remember getting out of class the the year the Bulls had their 72 wins and just catching the end of the game. I thought there was no way the Suns could beat them but they did. Al's "Oh Boy!" was so chilling to hear.

The year after MEE passed away I took our youngest son to a pre-season scrimmage in Tucson, I think it was the year we got Robin Lopez and I was excited that maybe we finally got a good big man. After the game I needed to find the restroom and was wandering the tunnels and halls looking for one. I saw this short guy walking around too and I asked where the restroom was. It turned out to be Al and he said he was trying to find one too. We walked around until we found one, just chit-chatting about the Suns and life and kids and whatever else came up until we we got there. We even kept talking as we used the urinals. He was just a normal, good guy that would talk to anyone.

I thought Al and Cotton were a match made in heaven and I like to think they will be together again. I feel so blessed to have been able to pee next to such a great person.
