My perception of them(Markieff in particular) hasn't changed since their draft night. I think the contracts are decent enough, but still think of them as "solid to high-level backups". I hope they become better than that, but I haven't seen anything from them to indicate that they will.

This was a funny exchange during the press conference today:
Marcus: (When he was still playing for Houston) Every time I saw Lon he'd tell me they were gunning for me.
Lon: Ahem! That's off the record by the way...

EDC wrote:Before last year I wouldn't have minded the twins being traded away. Since then they have really grown on me. Kieff looked really good in the post last year. I think he will be a solid starter. I also wouldn't be surprised if Marcus starts for us this year. I expect that both of them will continue to improve.
The best part of the twins is how hard they work. That and their attitudes. Getting into the gym early in the summer and even cheering on the young guys at the summer league games was awesome to see.
I'm happy McD got them locked up.
Yes, I'm very happy with their work ethic and their commitment to stay in Phoenix this summer and continue to workout and practice. I agree that they also showed strong leadership in supporting their guys in Vegas Summer League. I hope they prove many of us wrong including INF who has wanted them shipped out since the beginning. FOE!

Can't say I love this deal. I get that they're young, hard working, etc and the cap is going to go up in a few years but I don't love Markieff at 8 per and I really don't like Marcus at 5-6mil per.

Rewind it to about 13 minutes.

5 million for Marcus!!!! You kidding me!! 3 million max. Markieff is not good enough to warrant overpaying his brother just to keep him happy. Holy hell. We just paid 52 million for Markieff. Disaster.
Side note- the spelling error in the title is killing me

Oh, ok - it took place at Media Day. Thought it was a separate affair. Thanks.

Look who else is making 5 and tell me he isn't in that ballpark (excluding rookie contracts).

Indy, I'd rather spend that 5 million elsewhere. We have PJ, TJ and Gerald already at the 3. Any more money at that spot is money that could've been spent on a better 4/5.

I doubt we end the year with these 4 guys. I would be PJ (DUI) or Green (kind of at his peak from a skill/$$ ratio) are gone soon, with an upgrade to the 4/5 coming back.
I think it was Bob that said two years from now this contract will look like a very good deal due to the cap changes.

Keep in mind the Suns also have a lot of guys on rookie contracts (Plumlee, Len, Goodwin, Ennis, Warren and currently, the Morrii) so salary cap problems shouldn't be a huge issue until these guys start coming off of their initial contract.

I'd much rather have kept Green than given Marcus the money. Feel like we had no choice with these two. I just don't see the value, other than that they help each other by being on the same team.

I must be completely in the dark on this, but I didn't think we could extend him anyway. He is making 3.5 this season in the final year of his deal. Don't we have to wait until next summer if we wanted to keep him longer?
Or are you saying there is no way we are going to give him a big raise, and re-sign Dragic next summer?

But Green isn't related to anyone on the team.

It'll be interesting to see how Green plays into all of this. He played great for us last year and seemed to be appreciated by the team but everybody seems to think it's a foregone conclusion that he's out of here and not a favorite Sun. We'll see.

All of this talk about Green fading into the night is premature. Three weeks into the season when he starts dropping 30-point bombs on opposing teams, in opposing arenas, everyone will remember how much they love this guy. Unless there's a sweet "trade-up" kind of deal on the table that the FO just can't pass up, I think Green will try and sign long term for a contract slightly below his value. He seems sick of moving from team to team.
If anyone's being moved in the next few seasons, it's PJ Tucker. The combination of his super extreme idiocy and TJ Warren's rise to superstardom will make him the most expendable piece on the team.
