I suspect Sabonis goes #9. I imagine there are plenty of teams who would be happy to take the surefire starter in a draft full of projects - few moreso than Toronto.

I agree, too. Too much fledgling buzz about him, and he's got the last-name recognition. Some lottery team will bite. If we wanted him, we'd have to acquire the 8th pick or something, else take him at #4. I think if Bender is gone, Sabonis makes a ton of sense even at #4. But I admittedly don't follow all the other players in detail.

What about Henry Ellenson? Seems like he would be a solid choice at 13 if Sabonis isn't there.

It seems like the Suns really like a number of players. Didn't we also hear that they were over the moon for Damian Jones from Vanderbilt?

I think that's a very good question. We know more of what we're getting with Sabonis. Bender has the potential to be better physically and skills-wise. I'd rather go with the known quantity.

Look, I don't know enough about scouting and projecting a player's potential to even have an opinion of value. But the way I see it is that Sabonis is a low ceiling high floor player. I don't think he's going to be much more than he already is. He's a hardworking, intangibles, hustle player. I like his game a whole bunch. I think we just need to at least swing for the fences at the #4 spot. I'd be thrilled with Sabonis at 8 or lower though.

If he is what he is now in the NBA, he would be an all-star and a top 10 player. Any pf that drops 20 and 14 and is a net positive on defense is a star. I would be thrilled to get him at #13. I would take Skal there to, as a swing for the fences pick, but Sabonis could end up being a much better player. What makes a player great in the nba is not whether he can excel in a given game or two, but can he produce on a high level day in and day out. Sabonis does that. He is also not a finesse player like Frank Kaminsky was last year.

I think he is what he is. I didn't say he would come in and average what he's averaging now. He'll be going up against monsters every night. There's a very slim chance the guy ever averages 20 and 10. I don't see it.

This guy comes across as a prick. Everyone talks about how smart he is - evidence of this seems to be that he took a graduate-level course as a freshman and that he wants to learn multiple languages. Haven't heard a discussion about the grade he earned in that grad-level course - you don't have to be smart to ENROLL in a grad-level course as a freshman, though it may indicate that you *think* you're very smart. He took a Spanish class and a chess class at UCLA. A chess class? Pretty sure 10-year-old me would wipe the floor with Jaylen Brown (then again, 10-year old me would probably wipe the floor with 30-year-old me). Dude takes a Spanish class and seems to think he's fluent; meanwhile, there are actual multilingual players in the NBA and UCLA and just about everywhere else in this wide world. Compares basketball to chess and says he's the king while everyone else are pawns. Um... it's the queen that does stuff, the king's job is essentially to hide from the other team. And all the other players are pawns? Get lost.

College coaches are bound to say great things about their own players - it's part of recruiting, knowing that the coach you play for will back you up when it comes time to enter your name. But I wonder whether, behind closed doors, the reviews of Jaylen Brown are - Yeah, f*** that guy.

PASS at 4, 13 and probably even 28.

I like a lot of these guys, I'm interested in your take on Petr Cornelie, I'd never even heard of him until I read a write-up on I think BSOTS. He seems very intriguing.
