I just read a piece by Raptors Raptures that suggested the Suns take a trade of 9, 27, and next years 2nd rounder for #4.

It just doesn't seem like enough to move down 5 spots, but I also agree that it seems silly to have 4 1sts.

Can I just tell you how much I hate the whole, "we can't bring in 4 rookies" thing? The only thing that sucks about it is that they all come up for extensions / become RFAs at the same time. Having lots of interesting young talent on your roster when you are rebuilding is a good thing.

The Blazers bring in 3 or 4 rookies every year, and they haven't been able to get 2 all-stars at the same time. Nor have they gotten a HOF caliber player.

Lot's of rookies makes for an interesting team, but not a championship one.

You could argue that Suns management should aim to be more like the Blazers, since the Blazers have been consistently better than the Suns since Nash left. But you won't get a ring bringing in a ton of rooks.

You're also not going to win a championship trading for and signing mediocre veterans.


It's all about finding the right talent. That's it. Whatever way you can. The best avenue for the Suns is through the draft. Period. Arbitrarily putting a cap on the number of rookies you bring isn't going to win get you closer to a championship either. If anything, it is going to lead to more bad trades and pointless free agency signings.

The Blazers ARE NOT failing to win a championship because they bring in a lot of rookies. That's an overly simplistic argument to make.

Anyone else worried we trade the #4 for Kevin Love? He probably has 6 or 7 good years left in him, and we would use him differently than the Cavs do but his performance in the playoffs has me concerned. Two posters at RealGM told me I was crazy for thinking Love could get a #3 or #4 pick in this draft. His value has "plummeted." I disagree and I think it's the kind of move McDonough would make.

I'm not particularly fond of anyone at 4 but the 2 guys we probably dont need (Murray/Hield) so you could probably sell me on taking a flyer on Love. I'm not too worried about his playoff performance tbh, we won't make it next year with him anyway.
