You know what else brings diseases with them? College students that go to Rocky Point for a "good time". Might as well keep them from coming back too.

He's not trying to hide his racism any more. Scary.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 7:10 amVance says that even though the Haitians in Springfield are there legally, he's still going to refer to them as "illegals." Now he is claiming that Haitian immigrants bring disease with them. Not supported by any data. Pretty much classic xenophobia and racism.

The Haitian immigrants are in Springfield legally. This is just xenophobic garbage.
Re: Immigration
These are horrible people. Actually, I don't really think that (I mean some, for sure) but they've been led astray by their leader down a horrible path. Probably gradually. They don't even know what hit them. All gullible though.

Re: Immigration
If you believe that Trump intends to do as he says on immigration, it would be horrifying.
Re: Immigration
Now he is saying he would revoke temporary protected status and send legal immigrants back to their country.

He’s a pile of shit and hope the GOP learned there lesson on picking a candidate that at least knows how to be a decent human.

Or a swastika, especially considering his comments about Jews.
A few weeks ago I was at Zipps when a couple wearing MAGA shirts came in and seat next to me and started spewing anti-Semitism. I was disgusted and got up and moved to the other end of the bar. A while later the woman approaches me and says they’re sorry if they offended me, they were “just messing around.”
IMO, that kind of apology makes it worse. They’re perpetuating harmful stereotypes not because they actually believe them, but because they think it’s funny. And if they’re just doing it for a few laughs, that means it’s no big deal, regardless of the harm they inflict on others. The “It’s just a prank, bro!” defense.
She didn’t seem to understand why I didn’t warm up to her after that.

Re: Immigration
Human beings are ugly. What Trump is doing might have won him the election.
Re: Immigration
I try to avoid political arguments and bickering in almost all real-life situations: at work, at family gatherings, when I'm out in the world. I might quietly judge people or whatever, but I figure I don't want to get into it since nobody is likely to persuade anybody. The only exception would be if somebody were actively endangering or harassing / bothering somebody else, I might step in to try to defuse the situation, but that rarely comes up.
I've been in a few situations where I'm sitting with or hanging out with people who are saying Trumpy things that I find reprehensible or strongly disagree with. I generally try to listen to all of it in full just to try to understand where they're coming from. In many cases it's a nice person, a person I like or love, who is saying these things, so I want to learn how a person like that ends up thinking and saying those kinds of things. Inevitably I end up sad and disappointed; so many members of my own family say awful things about minorities, about immigrants, about LGBTQ people, on and on. There's a lot of negativity and anger toward other Americans. I'm worried about it. Even when Trump loses in November, all of that isn't going to just go away. What kind of country do we have where people are so angry and hateful toward each other? Where's the sense of compassion for our fellow countrymen? What are we going to do when and if some other nation attacks us, but they happen to attack members of the other party, people we have decided we hate? Will we stand together?

Re: Immigration
I think these people are just insecure and think somehow these others are taking away from their lives. I'm sure most of them have never met these people they fear and hate so much. I also don't think these people take responsibility for their own situations and blame others.

Re: Immigration
It seems like Trump is increasingly messaging all-in on immigration. The message seems to be, "If you're white, be scared that brown and black immigrants are coming to destroy your city. Vote for me and I will get rid of them."
Re: Immigration
Did you know? You can tell whether an immigrant is evil or not by their "genes." (hint: race)

Re: Immigration
Given how Trump is gaining on Harris, this seems to be working for him now.
Re: Immigration
Trump just openly spreading dangerous lies about immigrants. The explicit goal here is to make white Americans angry and afraid of other people.
Re: Immigration
When the Springfield thing started, I asked a Trumper friend of mine what he thought of Trump and Vance telling these stories about immigrants from Haiti. His response: “What the fuck are they even doing here?” Then we changed the subject. This is a friend of mine, somebody who generally acts like a decent fellow, but he apparently thinks Haitians deserve whatever happens to them for not being born here.
