I will say that it's been hard watching our former draft pick center thrive in a more limited role, scoring efficiently, moving well on D, hitting from the outside and putting up crazy per-minute stats. I feel like if we had invested the time required to develop him properly instead of misunderstanding his skill-set, screwing up his role and giving up on him too quickly, he could be out there contributing some much needed skill as a big. Instead he's doing it for another franchise. I'm talking, of course, about Jalen Smith.
You sir, got me good on this one…. Bravo! 😂

Roll call, mofos, who misses Deandre tonight? My man Nurk put up some numbers.
lol Marty just coming in here throwing gas on the fire.

Dominurk for the W!
It was an impressive game from Nurk. I know it isn't representative or consistent, but gotta credit the new big fella for an outstanding game.

Blazers with the L.

No fouls drawn.

Pedestrian 18 and 10 with very little impact on the game.

no... he grabbed 5 fouls of his own. Also, no steals.... really a ho hum game from DA.

18 and 10 is nothing to sneeze at. But that Blazer team is not built to be good this year, and they're going to rack up a lot of Ls. DA isn't a guy who can put a team on his back and drag them to a win.

Typical DA stat line. Very little else provided. No real impact made on the actual game.

LOL. You guys obviously did not watch the game. He carried them to OT.

And he was very actively defensively, his hands were all over the place once again, he could have gotten credit for 1 to 2 steals, even the announcers said he had a block. They just don't credit him for it.

“Ayton has to have an elite PG to create the perfect shots for him and spoon feed him.”

No Scoot. No Brogdon. No problem.

Scores 8 straight points for the Blazers in the clutch (including a 6-0 run by himself) to get his team to OT.

This. He'll have games like that once in awhile--like he did once early in the season against us last year.

I only watched the end…the offense was a mess for Portland, but they were missing most of their shot creators. Was just the Jerami Grant show…Ayton was mostly invisible, but I’m not sure it was his fault in this one. He would come up to set a ball screen and they’d often waive him off and send him back to the dunker spot or to set an off ball screen for someone else.

It seems that so far he’s even less involved in the offense than he was here.

Ayton carried the offense in the clutch in the 4th quarter to get them to OT (8 straight points and 8 of their final 10 points in the last 4 minutes).

For those keeping score at home, here are the 2023-24 stats so far:

Deandre Ayton: 11.4 ppg on 57.9% FG; 12.9 reb; 1.4 ast; 1.0 blk; 2.0 stl; 1.8 TO; 3.2 pf
Jusuf Nurkic: 10.5 ppg on 40.0% FG (!); 9.4 reb; 4.8 ast (!); 1.0 blk; 1.5 stl; 2.1 TO; 4.5 pf (!)

It's a small sample. But I think you can see already that Nurkic is a MUCH better passer than DA, and also not as efficient in shooting, and also more foul-prone. I think that would be expected given their careers to date. Overall I'm pretty pleased with Nurkic given that he's half the price, a better chemistry fit, a better screener and passer, and came with Grayson Allen who has also been great for us.

Ayton averages 2.0 in 31.5 minutes. Nurk averages 1.5 in 27.0 minutes.

OK, that’s a win for Ayton. Not a big win, but a win.

I gotta give credit where credit is due. He hit four shots in a row down the stretch in regulation to keep them in the game.
