Kemba is a really good player, but I'd rather not be the team that pays an undersized scoring guard $30M+/year when we already have a guy who does pretty much the same thing.

Ya, I like kemba, but I don’t think he’s the guy I’d go all in for. It might not be a bad idea to sign some short term(1 or 2 year) deals and clear cap space for 2020 or 2021 when we’ll be(hopefully) a better team and can attract better players.

It seems imo that the front office has decided that going after a max player is futile at this time. They will build from within and add productive vets in free agency and difference makers through trades that make sense.
Of course, when we talk about adding productive vets, we end up with Trevor Ariza and Ryan Anderson.
the team needed a pg, but this team signed ariza, then traded him for another sf.

If you can turn a package including the third pick in the draft into Kemba, Russell, Holiday, etc., I would trade it

On the other hand, if a team like the Hawks got the second pick and we ended up something like fourth, I wouldn’t hesitate to package the fourth and assets (Josh Jackson plus a second round pick) to move up and grab Morant.
Can't we just sign Kemba outright? Or would we not be able to have enough cap space? I guess we'd have to waive Johnson, which might be too much $ for Saver to absorb.
It isn't even close. It looks like he is going to get the max, and for him that is like 30M/season. Right now we have <5M in cap space, so we will have to rescind rights to guys like Holmes and Oubre just to be able to sign middling players. I think we can reasonably get to about 25M in space if we rescind everyone, and I guess we can stretch Tyler to get some more. But if we are looking at signing Kemba, he would have to be our only signing besides vet min deals (which means we still didn't address our huge hole at PF, and don't have any backup C anymore).
If we:

- rescind Holmes
- rescind everybody else not named Oubre
- stretch Tyler Johnson
- trade our 1st-rounder

Can we get to max cap space? I'm not saying that we should do that, especially the trading the pick part. I'm just wondering if it is mathematically possible to max Kemba and then re-sign Oubre using his Bird rights. It might make sense to consider it if our pick dropped to, say, #4 or #5.
Why does everyone forget about TJ Warren ?

Trading him to a team with cap space or involving him in a sign and trade is an easy 12M more room for us

Trading him to a team with cap space can't clear 12M unless we literally take nothing back, like conditional 2nd rounders.

Was going through and looking at per40 stats for all the first round prospects playing college ball and a few things stood out:

1. Zion is just head and shoulders above the field
30.6/2.8/12.0 with 2.9 stl and 2.3 blk with .68/.33/.65 shooting splits. Highest scoring rate, 4th highest rebound rate, highest steal rate, 4th highest block rate, 3rd highest fg%

2. Culver and Barrett are really close statistically
23.3/4.7/8.1/1.7/0.7 with .49/.33/.70 splits for culver
26.0/4.7/8.8/1.0/0.5 with .46/.31/.66 splits for Barrett

3. For a supposed defensive stud, Hunter has the lowest steal rate of all prospects and the 5th lowest block rate of the 18 non pg’s. His .53/.45/.79 shooting splits are nice though.

4. Clarke and Hachimura put up huge numbers at Gonzaga
24.5/2.6/12.1/1.7/4.4 with .70/.29/.69 splits for Clarke
26.3/2.1/8.8/1.3/1.0 with .60/.47/.75 splits for Rui

5. Lots of shooting at the 4
Bol Bol shot .56/.52/.76
PJ Washington shot .52/.42/.68
Cam Johnson shot .56/.46/.81
Grant Williams shot .56/.34/.82
Dylan Windler shot .54/.43/.85
I already mentioned Rui Hachimura and

6. Ja Morant is far and away the best pg prospect
26.8/11.0/6.2/1.9/0.9 with .50/.36/.81 splits
No other prospect had an ast/40 over 5.7

Darius Garland was universally considered a better pg prospect than Morant before this season started. He was injured early, but his early stats would not disprove that notion. He could end up being a real deal for someone. He was an excellent distributor in HS and an excellent shooter. The Suns need more of a sure thing.

NBADraft.net has the Suns taking Clarke with their second round pick. That will change.

Ya garland is tough to figure out. He only played 5 games, but he was shooting 48% from 3 in those games. He’s very interesting.

And no chance Clarke lasts to round 2, I think it’d be crazy if he doesn’t go lottery. I’d pick him top 5.

Zion Williamson is a stud, and I would love to have him on the Suns. I also think he is the best player in the 2019 NBA Draft.

HOWEVER...

I am all in on Ja Morant. I don't think there is another player 2019 NBA Draft that would improve the Suns more than Morant. Right now, for me, the dream scenario is that the Suns land the 1st pick, the Knicks land the 2nd pick, and we trade them the 1st pick for the 2nd pick and Mitchell Robinson.

Yep.

He’s not 8 figures in salary.

He’s a near 20 ppg scorer. He’s not dead money. He has talent.
