I'm surprised people here are so down on Kaminsky after seeing what Channing Frye did to open up our offense a couple years ago.

The thing is when you're picking #13th (or anywhere in the middle of the draft) you have to sacrifice something, lower ceiling, lower floor, off-court issues, injury issues.... something.... with Kaminsky you don't have the upside of some other guys.

But the rest of the package is pretty enticing I think; he's a legit 6-11 type kid with a very good shot and enough bulk that he can work down low and hold his own; he has more ability to take a slow big off the dribble than a lot of kids his size and maybe more importantly he's ready to play right now, he's not a project. This is a kid that finished 1st NATIONALLY in both Efficiency Rating and Offensive Win Shares.

Coming out of Wisconsin, this is a guy who never played zone in college, he knows how to play M2M defense, he is a very good passer, doesn't turn the ball over and hits his FTs. He's going to have a really solid career. Now maybe you'd prefer to roll the dice on a guy with more upside - that also means you're going to get a guy with much more bust potential at #13.

Keep in mind; for all the talk about Kaminsky not being athletic enough to play in the NBA, he went up against Arizona, Kentucky and Duke in a row in last years tournament, Arizona and Kentucky are two of the toughest most athletic defensive teams in the country loaded with NBA athletes -- neither team could stop Kaminsky. Karl Anthony-Towns couldn't stay on the court against him because Kaminsky kept drawing fouls against him.

I've liked Kaminsky since I first saw him last year. I would agree with your assessment, and I wouldn't be upset if he's the Suns pick.

I think if Kaminsky was a Euro kid, and there was grainy footage of this 7 footer dominating some second-division Hungarian team people would somehow love him more.

He's going to be OK defensively too, certainly not great, but he's 7-0/245, and pretty mobile, he can stay with people in the P/R game and he doesn't commit silly fouls. He's not really bulky, but lets face it; there aren't a lot of traditional centers that are around to punish him in the post anyway. The game is smaller/faster, that only helps Kaminsky.

I just keep going back to watching him against Arizona/Kentucky/OSU/Duke/MSU/UNC..... he was the best player on the court in a lot of those matchups.

There is going to be a lot of risk aversion with him being a white american center. Not a lot of those ever panned out, unfortunately for him. IMO, too much affluenza in the US for those players. He might be the exception though.

I also wouldn't be disappointed if we ended up with Kaminsky. I like what I saw in the tournament. I agree that we know what we're getting with him and I think he'll be solid in the NBA.

Kaminsky might actually happen ...

So would you guys be mad if we traded Bledsoe and Kaminsky for Russell on draft night then?

I'd be pretty thrilled if I was Knicks fan.

I really like Russell, but that's a lot to give up.

Considering that I think Bledsoe would play his ass of for a bigger market team like the Knicks, the fact that he is a real two way player, his four year contract and the rising cap, I would hope that there is a real possibility to trade him straight up for the 4# pick. Especially if KAT, Okafor and Russell are gone by then. Or am I completely delusional to believe that other teams might appreciate EB a lot more than us?

Is Russell that good? Maybe. But I doubt Russell is available. I would have big problem trading Bledsoe and Kaminsky for Porzingis.

I like Porzingis a lot, but he has bust potential too. How much better is he than Kaminsky? I would like to see the front court loaded, then build from there.

Interesting. People on this board really seem to be split on the matter though.

I do think that it would definitely be a huge risk and we would sort of overpay for a 4# pick - but superstars are so hard to come by in this league - in particular for smaller market teams - that you should definitely think about it. I am afraid I just don't know enough about Russell or college ball to elaborate but I doubt that MCD would pull the trigger ...

Yeah, trading for Bledsoe was a no brainer. Trading Bledsoe for a draft pick would take some balls, especially if you are trading away another asset too.

I doubt that trade happens with Porzingis. MCD is not shying away from taking risks but even for him that seems to be a little bit too much of a gamble. I would hope.

IMO, Bledsoe for Mudiay is less risky, because I see Mudiay's floor as a little below what Bledsoe offers right now. He can become the 6'5" Bledsoe, which makes having Knight as your backcourt mate much easier.

Good points. I like the way you are thinking.
I still have not given up on a draft-day-trade with Sacramento ... :)

With all the reports of Sacramento possibly trading Cousins, how about they trade Bledsoe, Tucker, the Morri, and #13 for #4 and Cousins? Ok, that's crazy talk and a dream scenario.

Gambo says the Suns are going to take Montrezl Harrell with #13. A 6'6" power player who can't shoot and is not a good defensive rebounder. Barf.

Yeesh, don't want anything to do with Harrell at #13; he's not just offensively limited, he's a bit of a basketball idiot. Doesn't have a feel for the game.

As some people on this board the Knicks seem to really love Kaminsky's game if they are seriously considering him at #4 ...
