Does Paul move the needle so much for us that we can make the 2nd round or better if it costs us certain pieces?
If besides Rubio, we'd need to give up 'certain pieces' like Oubre, Cam or Mikal, the answer is no and I would be against such move. But if we can add Chris Paul to Booker, Ayton, Oubre, Mikal and Cam (plus our 2020 pick) then the answer to me is yes. So I'd be willing to give up a future lottery protected 1stR, plus Rubio and fillers (in this scenario we'd keep our 2020 1stR).
Now, the real question would be if such scenario is better than keeping Rubio and trying to improve from other sources which, essentially, comes down to "keeping people and having only MLE and BE -vs- letting people go and having cap space plus the room exception".
I think the timing is bad. If you do it during the draft, you essentially take yourself out of FA as one of the only teams with significant cap space, and are better off keeping all your own FAs, operating as a over the cap team at that point and just offering up the MLE, imo.

I would rather miss the playoffs without him than win a title with him
On the court he's sort of a modern day Danny Ainge in that he does all the little things that piss you off.
He's a better player than Ainge was, but I still don't know if I could accept him like I did Ainge when he signed here (he was an irritant, but you knew he was all about winning).

I like Chris Paul, but I don't think he moves the needle for us, and we shouldn't give up any assets to get him.
Honestly, and this probably isn't a popular opinion, I like Westbrook better. I don't get all the hate. He goes 100%, good defender, a more willing passer than people give him credit for. I think he would do well here and probably light a fire under Ayton. Him, and and maybe Bridges and Oubre pressuring the ball over halfcourt? That's a tough defensively.

Don't worry. Apparently he prefers to play in NYC or LA.

I don't think Westbrook and Booker could co-exist.
Regarding Chris Paul....figures. He wants to end his career in a big market. I'm sure he'd prefer contending in LA and wouldn't put it past LeBron and the Lakers from figuring out a deal but NY probably has better assets if they're willing to include this year's pick.

Agreed. Just like Booker and Harden couldn't co-exist. I don't there there are very many top 20 back court players that could co-exist, especially when they thrive on 30% usages.

I hate the guy, too, but I would gladly take a championship if it meant having Chris Paul as our 3rd best player.
I would welcome Westbrook if we didn't have Rubio or Book but just had our wings and Ayton. Rubio isn't even that much of a deterrence as Westbrook can play the 2, but they're both so ball dominant it'd be tricky and make both guys less effective IMO.
I'm no fan of Paul and I don't think he's beloved by many guys in the league. He can no doubt help on the court tho and would be a great fit with Book, but I wonder about overall chemistry. He wins, but never really lasts anywhere and guys don't exactly heap praise on him as a teammate from what I can see.
To be clear, I was in no way saying that if we add Paul we would be an upper tier playoff team, or even a playoff team for sure. I was just commenting about Sauce's notion that he wouldn't want a championship if Paul was attached.

No lies detected.

Hollinger needs to get absolutely dragged for this take. He wants to trade Booker, Oubre and Ayton for Harden.

Notice how he wouldn't dare to suggest that the Grizzlies offer Ja, JJJ, and Dillon Brooks for Harden.
