I'm not saying the current team is as loaded with latent offensive talent as that 2003-04 team, but we do have some quality scorers on the wing in Booker, Bledsoe and Warren (assuming he recovers completely from his mysterious head injury), and a bunch of decent role players. The right floor leader and system may be all that's needed to unleash their offensive potential.

Good post. I agree that there are a lot of similarities. I hate when Sarver talks about us being a playoff team or when we play veterans to try to get wins that won't help us. But I do agree that it feels like this team just needs a floor leader, a real PG, and then suddenly we'll win 44 games and be on the rise.
I would really love to get Rubio here. Or just do a big trade and hand the keys to Ulis. Or draft Markelle what's his name from UW. Something. Get a pass-first point guard and hand him the keys.

I agree. Ulis is a real PG. Bledsoe is a scorer... sometmes when he decideds to be. Knight is a scorer... when he isn't missing everything.
Ulis is a quarterback. Bledsoe and Knight are running backs/wide receivers.

I like Ulis, but I don't think he's close to ready to be the starting PG, and I'm not quite sure he ever will be.

Totally agree, but I think it's better to try to play the right way and find out you don't have the size/talent than to play the wrong way with lots of talent. I think Booker/Warren/Len, and the rooks learn more about how to play the right way playing alongside Ulis, even if he isn't a real full time option.

Word to all of this.

They need a pass-first PG in the worst way. I've mentioned it in the past, but I think Rubio would be an absolute perfect fit with Booker, Warren and Chriss. His poor shooting is a drawback, but I would still take him in a heartbeat.

Again, I'll ask the same question I ask everyone else. Why isn't Rubio a perfect fit where he is with an even better cast of youngsters (Wiggins, LaVine -arguably better than Booker right now, and KAT?)

I think the idea of Rubio is a bit better than the reality. He's an amazing and willing passer and a fiesty defender (massive ticks) but his shot is just so broken that it negates all of his positives.

We're too poor of a shooting team to run rubio out there. His passing would be nice, but Bledsoe is clearly a better basketball player.
A rubio/Knight/Dudley/bender/Chandler 2ND unit could have some success.

And Marbury was 'better' than jason Williams...but you take Williams.
There is something to be said for making players around you better, and Bledsoe is not one of those players.

(But not necessarily saying Rubio is one of those guys, just checked and wow his career .368 fg% is awful)

If they are close in talent, sure, you can take the better passer if that's what your team needs, but Bledsoe is significantly better than rubio in my opinion.
And I don't like the Williams-marbury comparison, I still would have taken marbury.

I think Rubio isn't good enough to be on a title team or anything, unless the rest of the roster were really stacked. But I'd just rather have him as a building block to teach the other guys how to play and to get us running a proper offense. To me that is worth sacrificing the shooting and overall scoring that Bledsoe brings.

We just need someone who knows how to pass. Rubio's name just naturally pops up in that conversation. He seems more available than other options like Dragic or other guards that can both score and create for others. I mostly am looking for someone to man the in between years while our young guys get better. Hopefully we get a shot at a possible star point in this years draft.
If only we could have this team without having grabbed Bledsoe, IT, or Knight. Would be nice to have Dragic here with all our young guys.

Rodriguez is a hell of a floor general. I've seen him develop his shot at Real Madrid and it wouldn't surprise me if his %s struggle to this point are solvable with more adaptation. This is not the same player McMillan murdered.

Lonzo Ball is a nice prospect if we did decide to go that way. Rubio needs to fix his shot otherwise players sage off him and like Glad and Split said above.
Triano’s offense would seem like a great fit for a pass first point guard.
