Just imagine if Dunn could have been on Morant most of the game...

He would have fouled out in 5 minutes. The refs called a foul every single time Morant drove into someone and threw it up.wpmiller42 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 7:48 pmJust imagine if Dunn could have been on Morant most of the game...
Meanwhile, Gillespie was a +5, only behind Booker (+7) and Plumlee (+6).
Then we can't pay him $70 million per season on a new extension.Superbone wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 7:05 pmNobody has ever said you could. The Bobster wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 6:37 pmAnybody who thinks you can build a championship team with Booker as the ceterpiece is way off base.
As your third-best player, yes, as your second-best with a lot of breaks along the way, maybe.
As your best player? No chance.
Why not?JeremyG wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 7:52 pmThen we can't pay him $70 million per season on a new extension.Superbone wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 7:05 pmNobody has ever said you could. The Bobster wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 6:37 pmAnybody who thinks you can build a championship team with Booker as the ceterpiece is way off base.

If we need to pay one or two players who are better than him, the math doesn't work.Superbone wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 7:54 pmWhy not?JeremyG wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 7:52 pmThen we can't pay him $70 million per season on a new extension.Superbone wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 7:05 pmNobody has ever said you could. The Bobster wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 6:37 pmAnybody who thinks you can build a championship team with Booker as the ceterpiece is way off base.

Spencer made two free throws in the last minute of the 4th quarter after Dunn entered the game.
There's never been a championship team where the #2 guy was paid a commensurate salary?JeremyG wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 7:56 pmIf we need to pay one or two players who are better than him, the math doesn't work.Superbone wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 7:54 pmWhy not?JeremyG wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 7:52 pmThen we can't pay him $70 million per season on a new extension.Superbone wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 7:05 pmNobody has ever said you could. The Bobster wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 6:37 pmAnybody who thinks you can build a championship team with Booker as the ceterpiece is way off base.

That is an interesting question. Much more interesting than the scripted outcome of this game, that is for sure! The Bobster wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 8:09 pmSpencer made two free throws in the last minute of the 4th quarter after Dunn entered the game.
Oddly enough, Dunn antered the game betweeen two free throws made by Memphis in the first half and came out of the game in between two free throws in the second half. So just how are those figured into the =/- stats? Is it-1 for each or -2 for the 1st half and 0 for the second half? It would seem to be more fair to count the points against the players on the court when the foul was committed rather than the ones in the game when the free throws were shot.
I think the reality of the situation is if you do a tear down, you trade Booker as well. I think they'll probably kid themselving to thinking they can trade Durrant for some parts and still contend next year and that's just not realistic. They'll have big holes at center, big forward and point guard, and really only two players who should be playing 30 minutes a night and they play the same position (Booker & Beal). If they get a couple of players who they can plug into the rotation and a couple of draft choices that'd probably be a win, but their defense is one of the worst in the league and needs a complete overhaul. And running Beal, Booker, and Allen out there every night isn't going to help.Wally_West wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 8:15 pmIt’s about roster construction with Book. If you are gonna surround him with players who are shorter than him, who aren’t athletic and are horrible defenders, then add trash centers to that group, LIKE THE TEAM WE HAVE RIGHT NOW! …then yeah, you ain’t going anywhere. Also outside of a like 2-3 guys, no one is winning with a team construction like that. Tyus, Grayson, Royce didn’t do shit defensively but watch the ball and stand there most of the night and at all times we are playing 2 of them, sometimes all of them at the same time. YOU CANT WIN LIKE THAT.
Book, Nick, Colin, Ryan and Oso can stay. I’d like too to keep Bol too but I’m not too attached. Outside of that, everyone needs to go.
I’m on the record with wanting to keep KD but I recognize the reality of the situation.
No team has won a championship with more than one player earning the supermax since the supermax was invented.
Getting off of Beal is most important and would likely result in keeping KD.Wally_West wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 8:15 pmIt’s about roster construction with Book. I'll take your word for it.
