Why am I not surprised that Stewart was involved?

The commentator saying he’s never seen anything like this evidently was asleep when the malice at the palace happened with the pistons too.

Pretty good shoving match.

Reid was the instigator, Divincenzo needs a hefty suspension for escalating things and taking it into the front row, Stewart has been involved in way to many of thiese things.

There's plenty of blame to go around - referees for letting it escalate, the players involved (obviously) and the coaches (Bickerstaff and Prigioni) for not acting as peacemakers.

That was a pretty stupid comment by the commentator - there used to be several of these a year, and a lot of the time players were actually throwing punches.

I almost think the coaches going at it is the worst part of it all. A big unspoken part of handling NBA fights is that the guys out of uniform, the coaches and staff and such, are all on one team to help de-escalate and break up the fight. They are allowed to approach the scuffle, in a way that players on the bench aren't, because of this. If the coaches come in trying to amp up the fight even more, much less participate in it themselves, a crucial part of stopping the fight has become something you cannot rely on. If anybody in neutral clothing in the fracas can just start throwing hands at you, the whole situation could become very dangerous.

Since these things are usually just shoving matches with a lot of the players being "hold me back!" fighters, I am inclined to agree with you.

However, when it spills over into the spectators it's a different situation. It looks like there were at least a dozen people in strewet clothes out there - they should have been able to control it better and the coaches should probably just stay off the court altogether.
