Game Day: Magic (29-25) @ Suns (32-24), Sat 2/21/26

I have to give it to Ott…. Drawing up that play for green to take that shot when he’d been struggling was a pretty gutsy move to trust him after struggling so bad.

At least he won’t get any technicals for the next few weeks.

I missed most of the game (kid's birthday party) but watched the box score on my phone and the highlights. The clip of Green's game winner (and the play before it) are must-watch. Jevon Carter hits a wild 3 to tie it in 2OT with 1.1 seconds left. Suns draw up an inbound play to Green, he turns and hurls a 3 that goes right in at the buzzer. Good for him. He was having a mostly dreadful shooting night, but he made the one that counted. A bright spot on an otherwise rough night for Suns news.

I was all ready to come on and give a different perspective on Jalen's game.....
Like "Krypt" said, it was cool of Ott to still go to him at the end but I kept saying man we keep calling Jalen's number although he's struggling
Plus I felt Grayson and Collin were deferring to him too much. It's good to see how much they believe in him but he got the ball with under 6secs left in the shot clock way too much.
I was also shocked at how many minutes he played and again felt like asking him to create wasn't the best call but hey
The box score wouldn't show it but he did make some good unselfish decisions in the 4th and OT that led to Grayson clutch baskets but his pick and roll reads still has to improve.
If he doesn't have the first option he pulls the ball out probably saying he has to create 1v1 while other guards might try a re-screen and do the action again
Anyways glad such a "terrible" game could end in a win because the post game chatter might have been ugly...

That didn't age well.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

It was actually drawn up for Collin. Green was secondary.

Stressful game but a huge win for the standings and hopefully something we can build on to start the final stretch without some key guys. Would love to see Green's gamewinner get him going on a hot streak.
Felt like we were evenly matched up, both teams with key injuries and a lot of back and forth with the lead. I think it took us a half to wake up with the start time and maybe the Magic were a bit off from being on the west coast. Definitely not a clean game, pretty stressful and the fact that we won despite shooting 34% from the field and 29% from 3 means we did a lot of other things well. The Magic aren't a huge team but they're bigger than us across the 3/4 which seemed to affect CG, Green, Allen, Royce on the perimeter. Still, we outrebounded the Magic 65-53, 22-10 on the offensive boards and forced 16 TOs with only 8 of our own. We also took 19 more shots than they did.
I had concerns about Green and Brooks ISOing and killing our offensive flow and that was mostly true on the night. Brooks left early but Green was still a major culprit. We need his shotmaking and ability to get downhill but we can't turn into the KD offense where he's dribbling for 15 seconds trying to find a shot for himself while everyone watches. Then when nothing's there he's kicking it out to CG, Allen or Royce with 5 on the shotclock. It was night and day watching the starters vs the bench and as usual, the bench just had more offensive flow, won their minutes to lead the comeback and helped secure the win.
Royce, Brooks and Williams were all minus in their minutes, Green was a 0 and CG was +8. Dunn +16, Oso +11, and Goody +6 before he left in the 4th. Allen was 0 with a tough shooting night but hit a few big shots and did a good job attacking the rim. Oso was fantastic with 11 and 12 on 5-7 shooting. Williams wasn't bad but Oso was just more impactful overall. Our best minutes came when he was on the floor I thought. Goodwin was a monster for us before the injury. Probably the MVP of the game up to that point, just doing everything on both sides of the ball. Hope he's not sidelined too long.
Now we have a B2B with Portland which sucks. Double OT winner where CG and Royce played 45minutes each and Green played 36. We'll need Bouyea for sure to bring some energy and speed to the game. Then we'll see if Livers, Coffey or Sheer get any run.
