Three weeks into the season when he starts dropping 30-point bombs on opposing teams, in opposing arenas, everyone will remember how much they love this guy. Unless there's a sweet "trade-up" kind of deal on the table that the FO just can't pass up, I think Green will try and sign long term for a contract slightly below his value. He seems sick of moving from team to team.

If anyone's being moved in the next few seasons, it's PJ Tucker. The combination of his super extreme idiocy and TJ Warren's rise to superstardom will make him the most expendable piece on the team.
I haven't forgotten. If anyone recalls, I was championing signing him on his come back as the Nets did it 3 years ago. There's just no room for him going forward unless he signs for cheap and we totally give up on at minimum Archie, but also Zoran and possibly Ennis. SF is totally locked up for the foreseeable future. Do I want him on the team? Yeah, I probably would have preferred paying him to Marcus, but that's just my opinion.
Go Suns!

Side note- the spelling error in the title is killing me
It's depressing, this and the EB signing has put a damper on the new season.

Gerald Green is one of my favorite players on the roster. And it's not even that I personally like him; I just love the skillset he brings to the court. With that said, the handwriting is on the wall. With his imminent free agency, Warren at the 3, the commitment they made to Marcus, the amount of minutes the trio of point guards will command, Bogdanovic overseas, etc. I don't see Green being in Suns plans.

So in other words, this has nothing to do with liking him or not liking, or his play on the court.

I get what you're saying completely, but I think this organization, particularly over the course of this offseason, has shown a willingness to reward the guys who have helped them rebuild this machine. Green was one of our 4 or 5 best players last season, and if he can avoid any major dropoff, the Suns will pay him.

For argument's sake, let's say that you're right, that GG isn't in the long-term plans. Isn't it more likely that the Suns will re-sign him and then trade him in a few years? Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm no living room GM), but players on 2- or 3-year deals are easier to move than players who are heading into unrestricted free agency. If a team wanted Gerald Green, they'd want him when they know they'll have his rights secured, rather than when he's heading toward a paycheck. So basically, it's very unlikely they'll trade Green this year. If they do, it'd be the following year, when he's been paid.

If he makes it to free agency, then he'll go to the highest bidder. If he's not in the Suns plans, they won't outbid another team just so they can move him later. Teams don't do that with role players.

Plenty of playoff teams would be willing to take Green in-season, regardless of his expiring status.

That's right. I'm getting restricted and unrestricted free agency mixed up.

Regardless, I've heard a lot of talk from Suns fans that he's going to be traded this year (mostly on Brightside), which doesn't really make any sense if he's heading into unrestricted free agency.

Personally, I'd love to see GG remain on the team for many years. I hope he is in the Suns' long-term plans.

If you're going to lose him for nothing, why not trade him while his value is high and try and get something? I do think he'll be the odd man out unfortunately. He's the kind of guy who's more valuable to your team than he is to others, but not a guy you want to overpay to keep, either.

You mean like they did with Channing Frye and Marcin Gortat?

I totally get why the latter was let go, and honestly he was a totally different Gortat in Washington last season. I've been wondering, why exactly, they chose Markieff over Channing this Summer. They received an identical 4 year salary. I guess the two obvious things are age and skillset. Channing is 31 and Markieff is 25. That 6 years difference encompasses most of Kieff's prime and very little of Channing's. Frye also faded noticeably over the course of the season. The FO must have thought that Frye would continue that downward projection. It's the second thing I'm mostly interested in though. Morris is not the floor spreader that Frye is and he never will be. His release is slower and he only took that giant step forward as a player when he stopped bombing from the three-point line and got his butt in the paint. I'd like to think that they want him to continue that instead of reverting to his old self. That's why the FO signed Tolliver.

Is there a new philosophy being implemented? Warren is another guy that works mostly from mid-range in. There's going to be very, very little spacing in the starting line-up if we start Markieff and Plumlee again. It's a bit concerning to me actually. If our offense is predicated on probing and attacking from either side of the floor, swinging the ball back & forth until we find the opening we are looking for, where are the shooters necessary to make it work? I'd hardly call Tucker a shooter. That 40% from three is almost exclusively from the left corner spot. We can't start Green because then we'd get mauled defensively. Len obviously isn't ready to start. Do you start Marcus with Markieff? Then do a line change with IT-Tucker-Tolliver? I guess we will see in a couple weeks.
Go Suns!

Joking or not, He's actually right. Markieff plays/Played better with Marcus on the team. So thats the main reason they overpaid by about 2-2.5mil per to re-signed him

I actually think the suns can do without Gerald Green or Marcus, but when choosing between the 2 Green is the better player and The Suns know that, but this is all about re-signing Markieff and keeping him happy.
“Kobe had said (after the play) I wasn’t hugged enough as a child,” Bell recalled. “My mom kind of found him after the instance and we had beat them and offered him a hug in the bowels of the Phoenix arena. She really feels a part of that story.”

There's loyalty, and then there's stupidity. Paying Channing Frye $32mil at his age would have been idiotic. The Suns offered him a fair deal, and the Magic outbid that offer by an absurd amount.

When did Gortat help the Suns build anything?

$13 million/yr and two roster spots is a lot to invest in a power forward who is a mediocre rebounder and vulnerable defensively in the low post.

I guess it's possible but we seem so deep there with PJ/TJ/Green/Marcus.
