But if it does turn out to be a top-5 pick or whatever and fetch an amazing prospect, that will just cause me to be reminded of it all the more and make it something I'll have a hard time forgetting.

Serge Ibaka. Every effing time I see that guy, or hear his name, it reminds me of that awful deal. And that was a late first rounder. I really hope we don't end up talking about this give away for the next 10 years.

we won't be talking about it for 10 years because the franchise will undoubtedly have made other boneheaded moves in between for us to talk about... this is what i mean when i said i've learned to be content after the early sarver years...

I disagree. If the pick turns out to be low and the FO is all, "See? We knew it wouldn't be a good pick," we might disagree but still give them the benefit of the doubt.

It's like telling your friend not to drive because he's been drinking too much, but he makes it home in one piece and the incident is quickly forgotten. But if he gets in an accident, it isn't.

in which case i would still be upset over the move and just thank my (our?) lucky stars that it didn't turn out as poorly as it could have... i certainly won't forgive the front office for a particular move just because freak accidents made it "wise" in hindsight, unless they could prove that they somehow knew or could manipulate things to get to the final outcome.

Due to our recent streak, it looks like we'll be picking #14 (right after the Rockets ). Not terribly excited about prospects in that range, but I'm sure I'll love someone by draft day. We know McD drafts the guy he thinks will have the best career rather than for need. If we were drafting for need, we'd draft a kid who can play (at least some) center.

If we were moving up, I suspect we'd be after Myles Turner or Kristaps Porzingis. But if we REALLY wanted to make a splash, maybe we'd look into trading Bledsoe to the Knicks and getting our hands on D'Angelo Russell.

exactly, no one remembers the Ed Pickney over Karl Malone pick anymore either.

I do. It's exhibit A about why player personnel guys should never get to jazzed about a college player's showing in the NCAA tourney. Suns management got giddy about Pinckney, a likable guy who had a great run with Villanova that year (they beat Georgetown for the big prize). Malone was from a small school and allegedly had an attitude problem.

When Pinckney came to Phoenix for his physical, found out that he had been suffering from a bad cold and hadn't been eating. Weighed 195, stretched over a 6-9 frame. So much for being an NBA power player. He also had surprisingly small hands for a guy that size.

Within a span of a couple of years, Phoenix had drafted Nick Vanos, William Bedford and Pinckney, thinking they'd have a front line for the ages. Vanos died in plane crash, Bedford's attitude and maturity were stillborn, and Pinckney became a journeyman sixth man. Ugh.

I'm going to be ecstatic with either Harrell or WCS. Both guys fit needs and are going to be at least solid players in the league.

Frank Kaminsky might be available around 14. He has potential to be a Nenad Kristic/Channing Frye type of forward/center. He's a smart player with pretty decent range. A solid guy coming off the bench.

I keep replaying Chad Ford's mock lottery and Philly keeps taking Justice Winslow with the Lakers pick. Oof. Like that guy.

I can't see Kaminsky going lottery. And though it is our philosophy to take BPA, I have a hard time seeing us taking another wing.

Nah Kaminsky will be that guy that the pundits talk up leading up to the draft and then goes in the first 10 picks in the 2nd round.

It'll be interesting to see who we take. Philosophy is draft for talent, trade/sign for need. We should look at another big...athletic 4/5 should we lose Wright. We need shooters I think, dead eye shooters. Archie isn't a 3pt threat (yet), neither is TJ and anyone else is streaking. I'd like a knockdown SF. Problem is Tucker and Marcus Morris.

We just have too many average players.

I like Kaminsky. But I don't watch a lot of college ball, so maybe I'm just overly biased by that spectacular game he had to eliminate U of A last year. I don't have any sense of his approximate value in terms of what pick he's likely to be drafted.

When your team isn't especially good at anything in particular, the word for that is "versatile."
