pickle wrote:I don't know. How do you define risk...? I'd rather take Bell with that pick than Brooks, to be honest. At 6'7 with a 6'5 wingspan, he's basically a 2 to me. He might have some bulk to bang with bigger players but I don't see him being a plus defender. He had a few very impressive step back three pointers today, but his athleticism didn't really impress me, so I see a lot going against him in the NBA...
I think that would be a tough decision at 33, and it could depend on how teams envision either guy in their role and system. I'm not sure Brooks will be around for the 33rd pick anyway. I'm pretty confident he'll go in the late first round.
I'm not sure you've seen enough of him to say that you're not impressed with his athleticism. Sure, he's not a freak athlete, but he has very good footwork and can beat basically anyone in college basketball off the dribble. He also has plenty of bounce in his legs. The only real knock on him is his short arms, but I think he'll turn out just fine if that's all he needs to overcome.
For sure I haven't seen enough of him to have a real opinion one way or another. I guess with a second rounder (though the 33rd is pretty high), I generally want guys with more upside. Or I'd like to draft and stash, since I don't think our roster can take more young guys and give them a fair share of development attention. If anything, I'd rather take guys who build their games on defense so that they can be plugged into any situation, whereas an offensive star like Brooks, while he definitely has a role for some team in the NBA, I don't want the Suns to get another guy who needs to be successful on the offensive end to show his true value. I'd rather give those minutes to Jones Jr. at his point.
Agreed about having too many young guys. That's why I'm actually fine with Chandler staying as long as he's happy on the team. Aside from him, we really only have Bledsoe, who's a solid vet at this point but hasn't really won, and Dudley, who's a bit role player. Bledsoe seems like a good guy but not a vocal lockerroom leader like Tyson can be. Plus Tyson has the experience and ring to back it up. And as good as Booker is, it's tough to put that kind of responsibility on a 20 year old. Some players might also resent him for it. We have our upside guys in Booker, Bender and Chriss and we'll have another with our lotto pick. If we're looking at the top of the 2nd, take BPA but I'm also keep an eye on college JRs and SRs from big programs that have a winning resume...and can play (lookin' at you Alando and Taylor).
It depends on how the lottery unfolds and who the Suns decide to draft at the yop emd. I prefer to draft and stash the 2nd rounders, and if they feel they need to trade Bledsoe and Knight, they can get another 1st or 2, even in the future. I wouldn't mind taking Bell with a late 1st. Especially if he can develop a jumpshot out to the 3, he could be very much a Draymond Green type. His instincts, defensive awareness and understanding of degensive positioning is nearly on par with Ball on the offensove end. Add to it what his passing skills display about his offensive bballiq, those are the type of players you want to build your team around.

But that's less preferable than the Lakers losing that pick all together.
I would be very sad if the Lakers take Ball. For one thing, I don't think he's a good fit with their guys, and I don't think he will flourish with that team. For another, I think the daddy drama will inflate in LA. If Ball goes to a small market team, that story line will die out quickly.
I can't tell where your loyalty lies with this statement man. I'm gonna assume it's with Ball.
Suns then the NBA. I don't want Ball's fun talent to be wasted. Obv, I'm perfectly happy for the Lakers to keep losing.

I dont think LA takes DLo off the ball for Lonzo. Especially since he's flourished with Lou gone and Swaggy P being minimalized. Josh Jackson is a great fit for LA.

They moved Clarkson into the staring lineup and have been playing Russell off the ball a bit lately
They've moved Russell off the ball specifically to get a look at him there and get him comfortable if they land Ball or Fultz. They have Ingram so Jackson would be redundant. Ball/Fultz and DAR would work IMO.
Justin Jackson has done a David Copperfield trick on Malik Monk and made him disappear or be invisible this game.

I agree, he's certainly more well rounded. Seems like a cross between Hood and Tayshaun Prince. Good player who I could see playing sg and sf.

I just watched the scrimmage for the McDonald's All-American game and what really struck me is how much length and size there is in that class. Might be the biggest class I can remember. Very very talented big men. Several stood out, but the one I liked the best was Mohammed Bamba who is undeclared. 6'11" with a 7'9" wingspan and a 9'6" standing reach. Very thin, so he needs to put on muscle, unpolished offensive moves, but super smart(31 on ACT, Academic Scholarship offer from Harvard, comes off very thoughtful with his answers) and fantastic motor. Just ran DeAndre Ayton into the ground. If he plays with a top notch point guard, they will make him shine.

My Ducks should reload nicely with Troy Brown and Brandon McCoy (undecided, but a heavy UO lean). We'll still need at least one perimeter scorer, but Altman is known to find diamonds in the rough.

True, UO is establishing themselves perennially as contenders.

Bamba, Ayton, Porter and (possibly best of all) Luka Doncic kind of make me want to tank for just 1 more year.

Let's root for Miami to tank. The way things go, for our team we can just keep rooting for the playoffs and we end up failing miserably anyway. This is no longer tanking, it's a routine.
Doncic is wonderful. Already taking over games with Real Madrid at age 17. IQ and skills off the charts. Point forward with a clutch gene and humble, extremely coachable. Winner.

Isn't Miami's pick top 7 protected next year?
