I’m not holding my breath for a high pick. We got lucky last year. Two years in a row is asking for a lot. I’m going to try to relax and hope to be pleasantly surprised but I’m prepared for the worst. From what I’ve read, there are 3 tiers at the top. 1,2 then 3 all alone, followed by the next batch.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

I'm fine with any pick in the top 4, but I'm hoping for the #2 pick.

I’d say the tiers are 1, then 2, then the rest...and by the rest I mean like 3-7

Hoping for #2? Does that mean you prefer Ja to Zion?

You can move down or out with #2 because it's not Zion, you dont feel pigeonholed into a specific player like we were last year.

I feel like we would have taken Bagley had we gotten the #2 pick last year.

That's what I was just wondering. Would we have taken Doncic #2 or not?

I think Morant improves this team more than Zion does. And I think Zion marginalizes Ayton. If the Suns had gotten Doncic in last year's draft, I would say Zion would be the best fit for the team.

Doncic Booker and Zion. My God.

Although, to be fair I don’t think with Doncic this team is in play for the #1 pick.

Not to say I’m unhappy with Ayton, just that Doncic’s impact on the league and his team I think was greater this year.

Fun fact: Dallas was better this year when Luka was on the bench

Are you talking about games he missed, or all games when he was not on the floor?

All games...Dallas is -3.9 when he’s on the court and +0.8 when he’s off

Idk who said it, but Doncic is like a lot of rookies. He plays better when he plays with better players. Towards the end of the year when Dallas started to tank, they had worse players on the court with him, making him look human.

Tell that to Josh Jackson. ;)

I don't like that phrasing. They may have had a better +/- as a team. But if you watched any Mavs games with or without Doncic, there is no way anybody would say they are better without him. He's great for them. A stat like +/- is mostly garbage because it blends together a bunch of factors that you don't want to bunch together, such as who else was on the court, what the teams had to play for at that point in the season, etc.

Sure, +/- doesn’t tell the whole story, but it’s still interesting. Luka was playing against starters and was probably on the bench when the other teams bench was on the court. Tells me that the Dallas bench was pretty good and often outplayed opponents. JJ Barea was one of their higher +/- guys and I remember earlier in the year Dallas going on a big losing streak when he went out with injury.

I don’t say these things to call doncic a bad player. He’s obviously fantastic, but was mostly in response to saying we wouldn’t be in position to draft Zion if we had Doncic. Doncic is still a rookie and I don’t think he would have been a magical fix to all our problems this year.

We’d have a better record than now I think

Could very well be true...but we’d have to be significantly better to be out of Zion range. Hawks have like 10 more wins and are still 5th worst

I think I’m moving Hunter back up my draft board. He’s very unlikely to be a star, but I know he’ll be good. he’ll defend 4 positions and he’ll hit 3’s. Everyone else after Zion, Ja, and Clarke has big question marks in my mind
