Hield's play is so choppy he might've been lucky to get that. He could bomb away in GS and reestablish himself or just fade like he did in Philly.
I was thinking the same thing. It could go either way.

Cmon Suns, Beal + 2031 1st for Trae, make it happen!

I love that the Lakers are somehow connected here with nothing to give up, Reaves, Knecht, and 15 unprotected 1st.

It would be great to get Trae. We would finally have someone who isn't scared to take a shot. Plus, he's unselfish on defense, giving his teammates plenty of opportunities to guard his man.

Spoiler: show/hide
The Hawks wouldn't do that.

Young is a low efficiency scorer who plays no defense. There's a reason Atlanta hasn't been able to build a winner around him.

And there was a time when people thought he was the 2nd best player of the 2018 draft...

I know they are rookies, but I would love this lineup. The pieces theoretically fit so well to me:
-Young
-Booker
-Dunn
-Durant
-Oso

They went to the ECFs his 2nd season and Luka's got the same reputation FWIW. I'm a big Trae fan and would love to see him in Phoenix even if it's hard to argue with that description. I do think he's a PG who can make others better but either hasn't found that balance yet or hasn't had the personnel in Atlanta to do so. Swapping Beal for him is a no-brainer IMO.

I think what's going on with Trae is what happens to a lot of young players early in their careers. They're hyped up coming into the league, they put up numbers and look like stars but then either don't have success or have some success and then dip and people start saying they're immature, selfish, not a winner, etc. He's one successful season away from being "the best PG in the league" and "the ultimate competitor". That's just the way it goes.

Would be nice to swap Beal for Trae.

(Very, very) theoretically, what would we need to add to Beal to make Atlanta swap Young for him?

I don’t think we have enough to make them eat beals deal AND lose Trey.

I'm not a much of a Trae Young fan. He's talented, but the perception is that a lot guys don't enjoy playing with him and it's a massive red flag for a point guard.

I think the Hawks are stubborn for a couple of reasons. First, their front office ego has to be a factor. AFAIK, the major people who made the draft day trade that was essentially a Luka-Trae swap are still calling shots. Second, Trae is their organizational identity. For better or worse, he is the basis of their culture. That stuff is really difficult to change without putting one's own neck on the line.

At this point, to get Trae, I think the Hawks would need to look like they "won" the trade in the media. I know it's ridiculous, but I think their front office is that fragile.

Paul Reed is interesting, but all indications seem to be that the Suns are working with Okogie on a deal, possibly a multi-year deal. And that's our last roster spot, unless we want to just cut somebody like Roddy and eat his contract.

I don’t know if Reed would sign for the minimum either…I’m cool with Okogie now, I think he brings a valuable skill that we don’t have(except for maybe with Ryan Dunn). I still would like to see something happen with Little or Roddy…Roddy especially.

I liked Reed a lot out of college but he hasn't impressed me a ton in the NBA.

Theoretically, why would Beal want to go there?
