Around the League News - 2022 Offseason Edition
Re: Around the League News - 2022 Offseason Edition
Kings are super weird:
Online
This is good for 2 reasons…I’d take him as our backup 1 and it shaves money from Brooklyn, which makes a sign and trade easier in a potential KD trade

NBA media would meltdown if the Nets traded KD before Kyrie.

Every scenario I've come up with, a trade goes down moments later that makes it impossible.specialsauce wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 3:19 pmLove all those complementary deals you mention.
But you kept the most important piece a mystery. What’s your DA sign and trade.
Don’t say draft picks don’t say draft picks don’t say draft picks
Right now I have Ayton going to Chicago.
Phoenix receives: Eric Bledsoe (only $3 million of his salary is guaranteed), Coby Whites, Tony Bradley, and the draft rights to Dalen Terry
Chicago receives: Deandre Ayton
Portland receives: Lonzo Ball
I don't want Vucevic back because I want court time for a young big we sign and I want to bring in Kevin Love. And I think it will hard to move him to another team. This deal is iffy because Portland would have to be comfortable with Ball's medicals, which reportedly don't look good.
Re: Around the League News - 2022 Offseason Edition
Well what this means is that Kyrie's plan is to play for Brooklyn this season. Could Brooklyn still trade him? Of course. But Durant still is apparently loyal to him, and there aren't any suitors currently out there. So far now, yes, Durant and Irving are staying where they are.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 5:21 pmIf anything, it paves the way for the most logical path to trade Kyrie.
He was never going to opt-out and take the MLE or something ridiculous, and no team would be willing to S&T for him at his requested contract figures.
Re: Around the League News - 2022 Offseason Edition
There is no upside to acquiring Robinson; the best possible outcome is that he finds a way to get his stroke back, and even then, he is just another pricey role player.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 5:05 pmI think there's a clear buy low opportunity on Duncan Robinson. He's not as bad as he's being portrayed right now and could certainly become a top level 6th man. It makes some sense for the Suns if they want to develop an alternative to extending Cam Johnson.
So yes, this sounds like a James Jones move.

You’re right that there isn’t upside because of his salary. I just value guys who can put the ball in the basket. James and I are simpatico in that way.

Yeah, it's probably some Rich Paul shenanigans behind the scenes. San Antonio also probably doesn't want another Kawhi situation and decided to preemptively strike.

Ugh of course your scenario involves draft rights to some chump!
Re: Around the League News - 2022 Offseason Edition
I didn't mean upside in the traditional draft context; I meant it in just general sense: you're trading for a shooter who is no longer a good shooter and he has a hefty price tag. If he can regain his shooting much, he still doesn't address any of our major needs. So I at least would be left wondering, "what are we doing here"?Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 8:54 pmGood to have your “always in rebuild mode/upside” back.INFORMER wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 8:49 pmThere is no upside to acquiring Robinson; the best possible outcome is that he finds a way to get his stroke back, and even then, he is just another pricey role player.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 5:05 pmI think there's a clear buy low opportunity on Duncan Robinson. A nickel, a dime and 2 pennies for $1.

Apparently Trae and Dejounte are tight and they really want to play together. But yeah, it doesn't make a lot of sense on paper. It's like Ryan McDonough sneaked into the Hawks front office.
