OK EVERYBODY CALM DOWN, JUST CALM DOWN!!!!!!!!!
According to this, it's just internal chit chat.

The team is discussing potentially acquiring Chris Paul from the Oklahoma City Thunder, although no deal is imminent, ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Tim Bontemps report.
I'm not saying it's not possible. Paul is definitely the kind of move Sarver would like to make; this is the same owner who brought in the corpse of Shaq. But it doesn't sound like serious trade talks are in the works at this point.

Paul was 10th in the league this year in VORP. I am not sure the Shaq comparison is apples to apples. Shaq was 181st in that stat for 2008.

a 4 team trade? I'll believe it when I see it.

Weird to see DAL here. DFS is a really good role player on a stupid cheap contract, and they are giving up their pick too? Interesting.

Phx gets Paul
LA gets Rubio, DFS, Okobo
OKC gets THJ, Oubre, Powell, McGruber, Jerome
DAL gets Shroeder, Shamet, Beverley
Done!

The 4 team trade thing actually gives me hope that this is doable without including Oubre. Like RingWanted(I think) said, you operate over the cap and sign and trade either Saric/Baynes. I think it’s more likely the Clips or Mavs would want one of those guys, specifically the Clips.

A few other things I've been thinking about...
Paul, as good as he's been on the court helping turn teams around and making guys better, doesn't seem to have a great rep as a teammate. So you're potentially messing with a feel-good team that has great chemistry to bring in an older player who can be a drag even when things are going well. And if there's one guy I'd be worried about Paul really giving a hard time to, it's Ayton. He'll either bring out the best in Ayton or totally crush him.
The other thing is Paul's contract situation. Is he eligible for some kind of an extension next summer or does he play out his PO and just hit FA? If an extension is possible next summer but we decline, does he become a headache the final year of that deal? If it's just a PO for 44mil, which he definitely won't opt out of, and we need to/want to trade him, will we be able to?
There are stylistic concerns too. He’s a half court PG and we’re a young team that plays with pace.

A ton connections with the Suns....Bower drafted him, Monty coached him, he and JJ worked together at the NBPA. We're where we want to be as a franchise. A legit star in Book, an emerging big in Ayton and two really solid young wings in Cam and Mikal. Paul knows he can be the piece to take the team to the next level. Hopefully that next level isn't just a 7 seed. But things are in place and we have two very solid players on moveable deals that other teams would want. That's how you run a team.

Ya feels like it’s happening. I’ll hold out a little sliver of hope we can do this with a signed and traded Saric/Baynes instead of Oubre. I’d give it an A- in that case.
Rubio/Oubre/Jerome for CP3 with no picks is a B- for me.
Drops to a C if we add a future protected 1st or pick swap this year.
Drops to a C-/D+ if we include #10
Would be a B+ if we get OKC to add a future 1st

Yeah, I'm not comparing ability. Just demonstrating that Sarver isn't scared of older players on big contracts.

Im annoyed that the Suns are even having discussions about him, let alone that we would actually have to give up draft picks to take on his monstrous salary. This feels like such a Sarver move.
Are you guys allergic to the playoffs?

The first thing I think all of us can agree on is that Chris Paul is a pain in the ass. The type of player you love to root against because he utilizes every trick in the book to win. He pulls shirts, he flops, he elbows, he works the refs better than anyone besides LeBron, and he might even be better at it.
Despite these drawbacks, make no mistake, he is far from the end of his career. He's exactly the type of guy this franchise has needed since Nash left. If you're too bent out of shape about the stuff I described above to cheer for him on the Suns, then I suggest you buy some lottery tickets because you'd probably get better odds at winning the Powerball than the Suns getting it right while also appeasing your basketball sensibilities.
BINGO!

Another point about adding Paul...it gets the attention of the rest of the vets around the league who might take less money to play here since that's all we'll have to give. Vets on minimum deals...hopefully not named Melo...

I’m kinda intrigued at also going after Gallinari. He said earlier this year that he’s more concerned with situation than money, would he take a MLE deal to sign with us after we trade for CP3?
Paul/Payne
Booker/Carter
Bridges/Johnson
Gallo/
Ayton/Saric
Plus add the 10th pick.
If he wants more than the MLE, we could still make it work. Just would have to sacrifice Saric for a room exception big man.

Timing would impact the salary cap so I wonder who we'd target first and who we could afford.
