Thinking about it, I am appreciating the notion that we're totally fucked anyway, so why not throw a Hail Mary and hope that Butler will provide the spark needed to light a fire under the Suns?
I'd much rather rebuild but what the heck, management won't do it...
I’m curious why you don’t see Butler as useful with Booker and Durant? Who would be an ideal pairing for those guys in your mind?
Probably for the same reason that pairing Durant with Booker and Paul and latterly Booker and Beal hasn't worked. Butler would only be coming here to get paid and is on the downside of his career.
Those lauding the fact that Jimmy lead his team to the finals are the same people that were crowing over Durant and his two rings prior to him getting here. The truth is we've regressed ever since he arrived and I just don't see how adding another disgruntled 'superstar' with a reputation as a bad locker room presence will be any different.
In terms of getting below the second apron yes, from a basketball perspective, no thanks.

Fair…I think that perspective isn’t considering the basketball fit though…I would say the other two didn’t work because, 1. CP3 was a shell of himself and 2. Beal was a poor fit that only provided skills we already had. Yes Jimmy is older and he wants to get paid, but he’s still very good at basketball and does do things Booker and KD don’t.
I think I disagree a bit that we’ve regressed with KD…the regression occurred before KD got here…he just didn’t fix it like we thought. I get being gun shy because of that…what if it happens again with Butler? Understandable…but to me the price is low and it actually helps us blow it up later. The alternative of just continuing with our current team is a worse situation for me.

How I feel…take a Hail Mary from the 50 or run a draw(what we are doing)…neither is gonna work, but one has at least a chance.

Yeah, that's fair although I'd probably still take the team pre Durant, despite its regression, over the team we've had for the past season and a half. It's just gutless.
From a purely business standpoint and from the perspective of making it easier to blow things up, I agree it makes sense to do it. I guess I'm just pessimistic in terms of how much it'll actually change our fortunes on the court.

I do think I would’ve enjoyed the last couple years more if we kept the pre-KD team…well I still would’ve moved one player…

Because we'll likely lose the 2031 1st, setting our eventual rebuild back even further. Because Ishbia will then extend Butler on a big contract that we'll be stuck with until he is almost 40 (and likely the same for Durant). Because if we trade KD (and maybe Book) now, we could actually get a bunch of assets to start a much better and faster rebuild instead of being bad for a full decade.

But teams will want to trade for 39 yr old Butler and KD in 2-3 years when it doesn't work out. At least that's what they tell me.
In for a penny, in for a pound.

None of us are saying that…it’s you can trade them this summer if it doesn’t work…you obviously can’t drag it out 3 years and expect to get anything. You only drag it out 3 years if it’s working.
I’ve still seen no one that’s against the Butler trade give me an example of what they would do. Believe me, I’ve thought plenty about a redirection…I don’t think there’s really a better way out, but please feel free to give me your thoughts, I honestly want to hear them. I’ve got no good ideas.

I feel like I've said half a dozen times to trade KD for what you can now - likely the Rockets. Get back some combo of young players and picks with salary filler and start the retooling around Book. Dunn's a perfect complement for Book. Oso is still a solid young player you want part of the org. You have Richards to get a look at for the next year. Grayson and Royce are great vets to keep around or trade one this summer for a pick or two. If you add Jabari Smith or Tari Eason to that plus a future pick from the Rockets, you're well on your way to competing sooner than later.
I don't care about Nurk or Beal. Stretch and waive one of them.
