But also Hart completely stopped shooting 3s in Portland and started again soon as he got to New York. It was super weird.

Is it just me, or is this WAY too early in the season to be having this tournament? Most fans haven't even started fully paying attention to the NBA by early December. Teams have barely gotten into a rhythm.

I just don't get why they need a tournament? As soon as someone gets hurt this'll get scrapped.

No it won't.
They "need" it because revenue must continue to grow until the end of time. I'm sure it's not your first interaction with capitalism.

2323 is too early for this tournament.

I don't get the uproar. It's going to be a lot of fun if you like competitive NBA basketball.

Like FF said, it's another revenue stream and sellable asset to partners. And to your point, most fans (or casual fans) don't care about basketball that early in the season. This might be a way to get them more engaged.

I just think doing it in, say, January would be a big hit. Doesn't come too close to All-Star break, and it's far along enough in the season for teams to have gotten their legs and found a rhythm.

I disagree. I think it's better for the NBA to do it during football season to attempt to drive up viewership at that time. They don't have a competitor after the New Year, so don't waste the event on a time when people are already watching games.

I almost don't want to win it before our first championship. You know they'll be keeping stats on how many teams that won the in season tournament went on to win the NBA championship. I guess if we won them both this year, I wouldn't be too upset.

I like it when the players care about the outcome and put in a requisite effort. I also want the Suns to win every game.
I think it's weird how people will twist themselves into a contrarian take about something so simple.

The whole point of it is to drive interest in the part of the season that doesn’t get much viewers.

It's mainly a purist thing for me. I don't want the regular season messed with and I don't want two different "championships" per year.

"Purist" is just a lame excuse for being selfish.
If you're really a purist, you'd be against things like dribbling and moving while possessing the ball.

I'd be more enthusiastic if I felt they were actually doing it in the best interest of the sport and competitiveness. But it's just another money grab.

I don’t understand any of the arguments against it. At worst it’s just a regular season game(so nothing different than what we’ve been doing). If you’re not excited about it, that’s fine. I just don’t get being actually against it.

Well said, Split.
The whole issue is a byproduct of having an 82-game season that lacks incentive to maintain a consistent high level of competition. That's simply too many games, but the revenue is baked into every single operation by the league and individual teams so it's never going to significantly change.

Lol, how am I being selfish for not wanting a tournament?
