Joe Jackson, an undrafted point guard out of the University of Memphis, is finalizing a free-agent contract with the Phoenix Suns, a league source told RealGM.
Jackson, 22, averaged 14.1 points, 4.5 assists and 3.6 rebounds in his senior year a season ago.
Despite going unselected in the June NBA draft, Jackson received interest as a second-round selection and then accepted an invitation to the Memphis Grizzlies’ summer league entry. The swift, 6-foot-0 product averaged 5.5 points on 46.2 percent shooting in four summer league games.

Oh boy. I am so curious to see how McD will develop all of these pieces and assets into our hopefully very competitive roster within the next few years. It might be simple-hearted but I feel McD is a franchise architect and I believe he will do good if holds the reins long enough. I guess we should however understand that he is in control of a team for the first time in his career and that he should therefore be allowed to make a few (rookie) mistakes down the road...

How does roster building with the D-League work? Is there a way to retain a players rights while they play a season in the D-League? That's a portion of the CBA I have not read about yet.

That wasn't my point. I don't expect them to make the team. I just respect that they're bringing in quality guys to fill out their training camp roster. I don't know if they'll ever be NBA players, but I think there is something to be said about getting a look at these guys, coaching them up a little, and establishing a relationship with them. As they go through the D-League or pursue play overseas, maybe there comes a point where you can revisit their NBA potential and possibly making the regular season roster.

You can do what OKC did with Josh Huestis where you draft them and they forego signing an NBA contract and only in the D-league - in that case you keep their rights and they don't count as a roster spot or on your books. There's no way presently to sign a player to a "D-League only" contract via the NBA team while retaining their rights without that player counting towards your cap and taking up a roster spot.

Goran Dragic plans to opt-out, quickly resign next summer:
"Got a very interesting position with the club. Guess I'll break the contract and sign a new one," he said. "As I spoke [to the Suns], I immediately during the first week, when the market opens, sign and I will therefore be calm."

Really? Seems like the opposite. Seems like he's saying that he's going to opt out and definitely re-sign. That he wants to be here. Which is far from similar to what Bledsoe has said and done to this point.

The Suns might actually want Dragic to hold off on signing his new deal. They may agree to a contract at the start of free agency, but his cap hold were almost surely be smaller than the first year salary of his new deal.

Technicalities. The point he was making is that he's not going to do what Bledsoe is doing.
