I'm pretty happy Sarver extended McD. McD hasn't been perfect but maybe we can actually learn as an organization instead of having so much turnover in the front office.

Good move imo. Now McD has time to build around young guys and he doesn't have to worry about winning now. That is what all of us wanted all along.

Do we know McDo's salary? It's got to be below-median for an NBA GM, right? I definitely approve of extending McDo, but something tells me that part of what McDo likes about our current GM and coach is that they are willing to work for modest salaries.

I thought I read that he was the lowest paid GM (and it wasn't close). I am not sure what the new extension does to that, though.

We only extended McD through 2 years, so he still has to show some results over the next season, or we can drop him and only lose one year of salary.

2 questions:
What do want to see from McD this season?
What do you think Sarver is expecting to see.

From the interviews this summer, I think Sarver may be thinking that we need to compete for the playoffs this year.

I personally will judge McD a lot on how we handle "his" guys this year. So far all he has done is stockpile players and assets. Great! Now can he trade one of the guys he drafted? Can we resolve Len's free agency without a soap opera?

Wait, didn't the presser today have McD saying we need patience and Sarver agreeing that he has had too high of expectations?

Yeah, I didn't hear anything from Sarver where he expected us to compete for the playoffs this year.

If anything, it sounds as though he has resigned himself with the team sucking for at least another season.

Gives him time to work on trying to convince Phoenix to spend hundreds of millions of dollars worth of taxpayers money to build him another arena.

Ryan should be burning the phone lines trying to get Knight involved in the Melo trade scenarios. I don't know why, but if that rumor of the Knicks wanting him (for either his play or contract) are true this might be hi chance...

Melo to Portland
Knight,Harkless Portland 1st/Suns 2nd to NY
Aminu,Davis,Shabazz Napier to Phoenix

Wasn't there someone on this board who couldn't stand James Jones? lol. Was it Saucey?

Also....obviously we're working on recruiting Lebron for next year :)

Ya... I have gotten the exact opposite vibe. In fact, Sarver mentioned patience directly today.

Nah lol. I have a long list of players I couldn't wait to get rid of (Barnes, M***ii, Tucker, Turkoglu, Childress, IT) but JR was never one of them I don't think

Shel was not a big fan, either, IIRC.

Yeah, Swing hated the guy with a passion. Never understood the hate.

My dream trade would be to Denver for Gary Harris. Could Harris-Booker-Jackson work as a perimeter grouping? I'm not sure, it lacks a true pg, but I think it could. 2 good defenders, 2 good shooters, and all 3 can create their own shot and create for others to a degree. Denver might want something else though. I think they really like Harris.

3. Play the young guys. None of the Chriss/Bender/Ulis/Jackson group should get less than 20 minutes a game. Reed should get 12-15 minutes.

Here's my ideal rotation:

PG. Harris: 24 minutes, Ulis 24 minutes
SG. Booker: 34 minutes, Harris 8 minutes, Reed 6 minutes
SF. Jackson 30 minutes, Warren 12 minutes, Reed 6 minutes
PF. Chriss 24 minutes, Bender 12 minutes, Warren 12 minutes
C. Chandler/Len 18 minutes, Williams 18 minutes, Bender 12 minutes

Total minutes:
Booker 34
Harris 32
Jackson 30
Chriss, Bender, Warren, Ulis 24
Chandler/Len, Williams 18
Reed 12
I don't think I'd want Harris at PG. I have seen nothing inspiring that makes me think he could run a team. Not knocking him as a player. He's got potential to be a good SG. I have been watching him since H.S. and I don't think he has the IQ to be a successful PG. He wasn't even a PG in HS. I remember watching Harris and his teammate Zak Irvin (who is on the Heat SL) get blown out by 30 points on the sate Sectional Finals to a team who didn't have any D1 recruits because he would come down and play 1 on 1 and jack up a 3 every time. He didn't play PG at MSU either.

It's too bad that I don't think Melo wants to go to Portland, because I think this is a win for everyone involved.

The blazer players are actively recruiting him. Let's see what they can do.
