The other thing about the salary floor is, it really isn't bad to be below the floor. If you are under it, the league just makes you pay the difference to your own roster of players. Like if you're under the floor by $5m and have 12 players on your roster, you have to give each of your players a bonus of ($5m / 12) dollars added to their salary for the year. That is just fine. It leaves you with cap flexibility and just gives your players a little raise. No need to sign a useless player just to get up to the salary floor.

The only really bad thing about being under the floor that I can think of is that it might give players around the league the perception that your team is cheap. Or if you just recently signed a player to a contract but are still below the floor, he might feel like you underpaid him. But given our roster I'm not very worried about that.

I say that we explain things to our current players and tell them that this is a bonus until the time comes where it needs to be spent on an FA. This should earn some goodwill.

That's not totally accurate. It's distributed pro-rata. So your Chandlers, Knights, and Bledsoes will still make more off the shortfall than your Ulis and your Goodwins.

Yeah, it's $84.6M and the cap is $94M.

I saw that and was a bit shocked. I'm very happy for him though. The kid brought it every single night even when we were getting rolled or Watson hadn't played him for 10 games. I wanted to keep him because he seemed to have the all-around game that Bender has. Apparently others thought that was a good reason to get rid of him instead. Either way he gets to go re-unite with Markieff. Maybe he'll become an unofficial member of Team F.O.E.

Just another reason many teams choose to overpay for good role players. If you are going to pay anyway, and you can't get an all-NBA player, you might as well grab the best guys available and at least get to the first round of the playoffs. That's what most businessmen are going to think, anyway.

I suppose it promotes the competitive balance the league wants.

The easier to get rid of contracts, the more competitive the league becomes.

I don't know why these articles are encouraging the Suns not to trade for Millsap. PJ Tucker & Brandon Knight for Paul Millsap works straight up. Would anybody do that deal ?

Probably not. Anyway, ATL is shedding a bit of salary so that they can give Horford a crapload of money after already giving Howard a crapload. Paul is a UFA next season. Doesn't make sense to give up picks or any productive players on reasonable deals for a rental.

McD says we're looking to bring in a veteran PF who can start for a couple of years and then move to the bench as Bender and Chriss develop. That doesn't loud like Millsap.

Hahah

No way tho.

He showed stuff last year as a stretch 4. Overall smart, accurate, resourceful. Has his limitations, obviously.

I too would spend if I were them. Somebody could take the East any given year if the King slips. Millsap-Horford-Howard rotation is nothing to scoff at. They also have Schroder, Coach Bud and co. You can coach a potent team out of that.

Well, Atlanta just shed all of Horford's salary!

Haha. Yep. Word quickly spread that they no longer were looking to move Millsap and may be looking to add Pau. I'm sure Dwight is thrilled with the thought...

Carey probably already posted this, but the rooks have their numbers.

Bender - 3
Chriss - 0
Ulis - 8
and
Knight - 11

It's tempting to read into Bender taking Knight's number. Like, he gave up his number because he knows he's on his way out. More likely, he just doesn't care about #3 as much as Bender.

Oh, Knight was #11 previously, but couldn't get that # when he came over because Markief had it.

Actually I haven't. ;) I'm not sure that Bender #3 will stand with Dudley returning though. Knight got his number back. A little surprised that Chriss opted to be the new Agent Zero.

Yep, nothing to read into it. That's the number Knight wanted. He opted to grab it when he could.

Plus all you closet Knight fans will have to get new jerseys with the new number.
