I am frustrated that the Biden campaign weren't forthcoming about the advanced state of his degradation. They limited his appearances and his media access so it was harder to assess his state.

But you seem to be saying that this is a sign that the Democratic political party is crooked or full of lies. I think the overall situation actually shows evidence of a healthy party. A small group of people in Biden's inner circle misled the rest of the party and country about the candidate, but the debate unmasked that he was incapable of being reelected. Once this became clear, the party pretty rapidly coalesced around demanding that he step aside. And so he did. Now we're going to nominate a more appropriate candidate who has the support of the party and is mentally healthy and qualified for the job.

By contrast, the Republican party has failed to evict its candidate who has committed multiple crimes and violated all sorts of principles and tests of character. He has instead hijacked the party and made himself its king and demigod. And they love it. I don't think this is a sign of a healthy party. I don't know what the GOP is going to do once Trump is gone or unable to campaign any more. He *is* the party, and the party is him. He might still win the 2024 election, but this is not how a healthy normal political party behaves.

The party and their propoganda voice, the media, misled people for the past 4 years. It just took the debate to stop denying it. Hence why they decided to do a debate so early, so they could expose it with plausible time to replace him with the candidate of their choosing and not decided by the primary. Who directs the media to exactly what questions it can ask in an interview.

:shrug: I don't think your words accurately describe what Trump did. If he didn't commit crimes and they were "created," I'm sure he'll be able to defend himself well in court. Oh wait, he got convicted of 34 felonies. And the only way he got out of the classified docs case (which was a strong case) is because a judge he appointed threw the whole case out on a bogus technicality.

Was it the Dems or Trump who tried to extort Ukraine? He was impeached for it. The official ambassador and liaison’s said Trump tried to get them to extort Ukraine and were fired for refusing. Trump sends in Rudy, who wasn’t a government employee of any kind to extort them instead. This was ALL Trump being a mafia boss and he was busted for it. It was the first example of Trump trying to affect the next election thru fraud.

The Postal scam where he tried to slow down the mail before the election to hobble Dem votes was another example of mafia boss Trump trying to alter the results of the election in his favor thru fraud.

It seems several leaders have inadvertently had a couple of classified docs in their possession after they left office. In every case they are immediately turned over once found and all is forgiven. Trump took boxes and boxes of classified docs. They knew he took them and asked for them back. He denied having them and didn’t give them back. Then they threatened to come and get them and then he found some and turned them in. They said that wasn’t all of it. He said it was. They got a search warrant and found the boxes and boxes of classified docs sitting on the stage in a meeting room and in his desk next to his passport. Then Trump pivoted to several different excuses, all different from each other. Someone must have put them there. Why didn’t they just ask for them first. They are mine! I declassified them first. They had orders to kill me! Trumps case is different because he intentionally lied over and over and refused to comply unlike everyone else.

Was it the Dems or Trump that assaulted all women Trump has been accused of assaulting? Did they create all those dozens of women that came forward long before Trump ran for President? E Jean Carrol proved her case in a court of law. Maga says the media, prosecutors, judge, witnesses and jury were all fake and fraudulent. He lost.

Trump business found guilty of tax fraud? Did the Dems create that? They proved the case in a court of law. Trump lost. Must be the evil government again.

The Dems or Trump created Jan 6? Maga says, don’t believe all the fake things the Media says Trump and his cronies said that day. None of the participants were violent and of they were it was Intafada or BLM. Trump tried like hell to stop the riot but, no one would listen to him. It’s Pelosi’s fault. It’s the police’s fault. Fake electors? Definitely a crime and Trump was definitely the guy behind it. It wasn’t BLM, Intifada, Pelosi or Biden. It was Trump trying to steal an election.

Oh, I get it, the rule of law only works in one direction and of course Trump is guilty no matter what. The details shouldn't be allowed to be in the case to defend himself.

You have this wrong. Trump was allowed to present evidence and experts. He chose not to; he called 2 witnesses, the primary one being Robert Costello to talk about who arranged / knew about hush money payments. The defense did try to call campaign finance expert Brad Smith to testify, and the judge allowed this, but the judge told them he had to constrain his testimony to the case matter and not try to tell the jury directly how to interpret the relevant laws, since this might bias their conclusions. So Trump's team decided not to call Smith after all.

Trump's defense team wants to call election law expert Brad Smith to testify about federal campaign finance law. But the judge ruled this morning that allowing Smith to testify expansively on that topic would supplant the judge's role to determine what the law is.

Merchan did not block Trump from calling Smith, a former member of the Federal Election Commission. But the judge said he’d be restricted to the basics of the FEC and to “general definitions and terms” in campaign finance law, like what counts as a contribution or expenditure.

Trump’s defense wants Smith to testify about the FEC’s policy that expenses that exist “irrespective” of a candidacy are not deemed to be campaign expenditures — evidently as part of an argument that the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels wasn’t campaign-related under federal law.

Trump is certainly ahead right now. But Kamala hasn't even begun her campaign. She hasn't even got the nomination yet. I think she's seemed strong lately, so I hold out some hope that she has learned some lessons from her rough 2020 Presidential primary campaign. We shall see.

I'm hoping if the Dems do some kind of "blast primary" process, that she's the nominee who comes out, and that it isn't a bloodbath that ends up hurting her and the other candidates. I hope she is the nominee and picks wisely for VP, a partner who can solidify her ticket and reassure voters that the Dem ticket is the sensible one.

I am critical of Trump when I feel it's needed, but the problem is that you think I need to pile on him when most of the outspoken people here are plenty critical of him all the time and show no restraint or shame in making your voice heard.
