Re: Social media
I listened to part of the Trump/Elon call. Trump sounds like his dentures are falling out. Thisth ith a stupid interview, like that.
Re: Social media
And Elon blamed a “massive DDOS attack on X” despite the fact that the rest of X was running fine (or, as fine as it usually does).

Re: Social media
UAW Union says they are suing Elon Musk.
Re: Social media
I don’t see how the UAW can make an unfair labor practices charge stick against Trump, who doesn’t employ any auto workers.

Re: Social media
Yeah I don't think Elon is likely to be found liable. I am no expert about the relevant laws but it feels like a spite lawsuit just meant to waste his time or money, unlikely to actually succeed.
Re: Social media
I have no idea what kind of case they have.

Re: Social media
The greatest cutter. Look at how he took over Twitter and cut most of the staff. He decimated the value of Twitter in the process and cost himself billions of dollars, but that’s a price he’s willing to pay… to cut. And that’s what makes him the greatest.Donald Trump wrote:Well, you you’re the greatest cutter. I mean, I look at what you do. You walk in. You want to quit? I won’t mention the name of the company, but they go on strike and you say, that’s OK. You’re all gone. You’re all gone. So every one of you is gone and you are the greatest.

Yep, just eliminate things like the Department of Education. Why should the government care about our children’s education? That’s what churches are for.

Re: Social media
Twitter/X's AI system, "Grok," now allows you to ask it to generate AI art images. But apparently it doesn't have very many filters or blockers on it, so you can ask it to generate almost any vile thing you want. (I guess most of the other AI image generators have more of such blocking to avoid making lewd or upsetting imagery.) People have been using it to generate, well, vile images. Here's an example:

I like Nate's stats and models, but when he tries to be a pundit he seems to be increasingly going for outlandish conspiracy theories and wacky ideas. I read that he doesn't work for his 538 any more but rather for rich conservative tech investor Peter Thiel.

Huh? Re: Social media
Yeah I had trouble understanding what he was implying, too. I think he's saying something like, the powers within the Dem party (presumably this is people like Pelosi, Schumer, etc.) don't like Biden, they forced him out as the candidate, and they want to continue to undermine him and make him look bad. And they know he gets tired ("sundowns") later at night, so they intentionally slotted him on the worst time slot (last) on the worst day of the convention (first). Then the speeches prior to Biden's ran long, making Biden's speech start time even later. So he'd get very few viewers and have the maximum chance of gaffes and mistakes.
IMO this is silly stuff. Yes, Pelosi and others helped push Biden to step aside. But now that he has done so, I don't think it is in anybody's interest to make Biden look stupid or senile. They likely put him on Monday to give him a bit of space from Kamala and Walz and not be "in their way," since they want a clear changing of the guard / passing of the torch. And it gives a big headline speaker on the first day of the event. I don't think there is anything more to it than that. Silly to make up conspiracies to explain perfectly normal things.

Re: Social media
It doesn’t matter what time he’s on. These days people view these things on DVR or the internet.
Of course conservatives are saying he was on late because the Dems are trying to hide him. And if he hadn’t been on late, the attack would have been that he’s a feeble old man who can’t stay awake late at night.

Re: Social media
OK, no wonder I didn't get it. Dumb. Biden did great by the way. Very few gaffes. It was more analogous to his state of the union speech. He was fiery.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 9:27 amYeah I had trouble understanding what he was implying, too. It doesn’t matter. They are going to say crap no matter what. If it wasn’t that, it would be something else.
