I didn't follow that draft closely, but was mildly interested in Sabonis.
Was surprised Suns got two raw "prospects" that essentially played the same position.
As it turns out, the sleeper of that draft is Pascal Siakam, picked at #27.

I wanted Bender and Jackson, and I liked the Ullis pick. Apparently YouTube clips are not a sufficient way to scout players-You may not want to trust my talent evaluations.

I had hopes for Jackson. Thought he had the physical tools for success.
However, apparently there was a psychotropic carnival midway operating between his ears ...

You guys still on Bender Island are crazy to me, haha...granted I still own property on Chriss Cove, but at least he’s actually producing in nba games.
Bender IMO is the worst draft pick we’ve made that I was around for. Based on how high he went and what he was in the nba. I could be talked into Josh Jackson if you factor in strength of draft. But Jackson still has a shot at being an nba player.
When you look at realistic other options people knew would be good taken right after us, Josh is the worst pick (but I agree it is close). Literally anyone taken after Josh in the lottery would have been a better pick, with the possible exception of Ntilikina.
I guess same could be said of Bender with 1 or 2 exceptions...
Both were awful, awful picks.
I remember Gambo and Burns doing somersaults over that draft thinking McDonough killed it. Whoopsie.
Not just them. There were TONS of people here that thought it was great. I could be wrong, but I thought the majority of this site thought the consensus pick at 4 was Bender.
I think he was for the most part. I wasn’t a Bender fan, but I did want Chriss at 4. Well in reality I wanted Hield but I knew we weren’t taking him.
Pretty sure Inf gave that draft an F, so he got it right.
Pretty sure he gave it an
F- and SOOOO many people gave him shit about it and said how ridiculous it was of him.

I'd be happy with Nesmith at #10.
Tbh, I would be highly skeptical of that pick. I don't like it that he makes Kelly Oubre look like a Steve Nash level of a passer. 1:2 Assist to Turnover ratio, and he's going to come to Phx and be expected to move the ball as a 4th or 5th option? Skeptical
I wouldn't expect him to
move the ball. That's not his game, just like I wouldn't be expeting him to come in and dunk over poeple. But his shooting would create gravity and he defends. He is not my only 'realistic' target (Jalen Smith, Patrick Williams, Kira) but I believe we can do a lot worse at 10, especially if Oubre is traded.
Here is the problem with that particular point. When you are in the playoffs, the opposing team WILL take away your first option, which is shooting for Nesmith. If he can't shoot, we already know he's not a good passer, so what does he have as a 2nd option? I can't recall him being very good at almost anything else, so that means he is going to be unplayable.

QRich and Raja had the same issues. Great spot up shooters, but once teams started running them off the 3pt line they were much less effective. That's why I get Jones wanting to go after guys who are triple threats and not just specialists. Even Cam showed some off the dribble ability in college and got better throughout the season and in the bubble.

You may be right, but unplayable is pretty strong. Still, we are talking about a #10 pick; it's on the stars to playmake enough so the spot up shooters have space to put up good shots. I'm open to other candidates in any case.

QRich was a good rebounder, so he offered that, and could get around the basket and score there too. Raja was a very good defender and a pretty decent passer with good vision for his position and had a 2:1 assist to TO ratio for a lot of yrs.

His shooting levels were great this yr, but it was also just a 14 game sample against not the best competition.

I’d pick Hayes, but I also understand not picking him. He’s very raw. He probably won’t help us at all next year. If we’re clearing out the bench to have space for CP3, we might need the 10th pick to contribute. Though if we’re taking Bane, we should move down a few spots and at least pick up a 2nd.

Indeed, but the volume on those 14 games was nuts though. Do you have him in your top14?

I'm not sure if this has been discussed on here but would you guys give up #10 for Markkanen? Would you do #10, 2022 1stR (top10-5-3->2x2ndR), Jerome, Kaminsky for #4 and Sato?

Im terms of win now, I think Nesmith is ready to go. He can be a high volume shooter off the bench. Otherwise I’m fine using the 10th pick to nab another established player or sign and trade.

The Suns appear to be trying to compete for real and that is going to require stars on huge contracts so it needs to be balanced out somehow. I think strategically we should walk from this draft with at least one rookie, unless a move is too good to refuse. If you hit the pick you get a contributor for less than the MLE.

Yeah. Sounds like Gallo might be on board too if we put up the $.

Right. When you have a couple stars making +30M and role-players in the high-teens, you have to balance that with low contracts. Some markets can get away with just getting people to play there for minimum contracts for the city and a chance at a ring. That isn't us (especially right now). So we need to hit the lottery with a min contract guy that plays out of his mind, or make good draft picks.
