Requesting we sticky this so people can vent their frustrations about not signing Amare to $100 million dollars and reminisce about better times when life was good and SSOL was a way of life.

It amuses me the reaction this place has to a simple conversation that goes against the group think. Not a reasonable conversation about things that happened in the past. No instead it is people putting fingers in their ears and yelling 'No No No'. Followed by the mocking of anyone that disagreed with them.

It really says a lot about some posters on here. You can say it is all in good fun but I'm pretty sure that isn't the case.

It doesn't bother me all that much since I've been through this many times on this board and our past one. It just surprises me that you can't see how that might factor in to peoples decision to actually participate in conversations.

I don't know about groupthink or whatever. I just see it rehashed over and over again, several times a season and off-season ad nauseam. We get it. We really do. I promise. I know how you feel and how others feel when it comes to Amare not being re-signed to a max deal. I'm AmareIsGod. I was his biggest fan. It hurt seeing him go. But it's 2017. I don't know if talking about it over and over again in different threads every year over and over again is going to change anything.

It was a simple conversation with points from both sides. You have quite a few people backing your side. As soon as someone came in with a neutral opinion on the subject and didn't back your side you call the whole conversation pointless and began to mock it. Interesting approach. If you are tired of the conversation why would make a whole new thread for it? It was in a game thread. You could have just skipped the thread from then on.

Shrug.

Outside of it kind of annoying me because of the whole "ad nauseum" thing I mentioned above, you kind of nailed it earlier with:
It really says a lot about some posters on here. You can say it is all in good fun but I'm pretty sure that isn't the case.
I'm pretty sure it is. :) There is a South Park video in the original post along with a thread title that's a bit of a joke.

I miss Paul Westphal, Walter Davis and Alvan Adams.

But dreaming about them coming back ain't making it happen.

Time to move one.

Great idea. If I had the time I would move all the posts reahshing DA or Kerr or Nash or 7SOL or whatever here as well as all future discussions of that sort so I would never have to see them again.

Hey, I think it's fine to talk about any and all subjects here.

Even ones we have already rehashed 100 times.

Even stuff that's 5, 10, 20 years old. (WHY did we have to trade Majerle for Hot Rod Williams?!?!!?)

Even things we get emotional about.

It's the summer, there is about to be 2-3 months of darkness and lack of news/info about the NBA. We need something to do, something to talk about, a reason to post here and to care about our Suns. If arguing about Amare or Joe Johnson or Marion or Marcin Gortat gives us that, so be it.

I always enjoy talking Suns/NBA with you fellas even if we don't always agree. And I'm really happy that this new .net site has survived and acquired enough of a critical mass to keep our conversations going, even the arguments about Amare. :-) Much love to all.

Let's just ignore that neither was Hot Rod Williams.

They dealt Dan just after his career had peaked, so I didn't have a big problem with that so much, it's just that yes, they traded him for a PF who was older and then tried playing him at center.

If Hot Rod had been 27 instead of 33 when they traded for him it would have been a great deal (even though Majerle was 3 years younger) because Hot Rod was an underrated player and was really good, but he was overshadowed by Larry Nance and Brad Daugherty, who were both much better.

I just hated the blatant spin by Jerry. If you want to say you tried to cash in while Dan was at his peak, and were thinking he would just come back next summer because he was a FA and you could sign him, then don't put this spin out there. I actually really like that Dan did what was good for him (going to Miami), instead of the easy/predictable thing of coming right back here.

And our boy Person didn't turn out to be the player we hoped.

One thing I will say for him, Jerry was not afraid to trade a good player in his prime.

I totally forgot he died.
This part is depressing:
At first there was speculation that he had tripped and hit his head. But months later the autopsy and toxicology reports revealed the presence of that same perilous cocktail of ketamine, GHB and cocaine.
Before reading this article, the "tripped and hit his head" version of his death was the only one I knew. I had no idea drugs were involved.

Unfortunately, professional sports is not the best environment for anyone with any types of self-destructive vices or addictions.

Paul Silas, Gail Goodrich, Connie Hawkins, Jeff Hornacek, Charlie Scott, Charles Barkley, Jason Kidd, Truck Robinson, Larry Nance, Dan Majerle - Jerry was never afraid to pull the trigger no matter how good a player was.

I would say any profession/situation that gives you too much disposable income and not enough accountability for your actions fits that mold.
