Ok, I saw that Kevin Ray was going to do play by play for the Suns broadcasts this year and cringed. I haven't been a big fan of his sideline reporting and thought of how painful this year was going to be listening to him every game all game. After watching him for several games I have to say that I have been pleasantly surprised. He hasn't annoyed me. He doesn't try to mimic Al and come up with dorky sayings like "elevate and detonate". He just calls the game and I am OK with it.
I was wondering how everybody else thought about it.

I think because his voice was already so familiar to me, I forgot he was the new play by play guy. I guess that means he's done well, I haven't noticed any stupid sayings or inaccurate comments. Count me a fan so far.

Better than Steve Albert so far by a good margin. The only thing is that he doesn't have your typical Tv voice. It's more like your next door neighbor calling the game.

Yes, he's been fine. He stays in his lane and doesn't try to do too much. He doesn't make it about him which I like. Very positive start for him.

I like what he is doing, except that damn "boom" every time someone hits a 3. That needs to stop. Especially when you are down +30 points in a game.

I think he stinks. I'd rather just watch the game in silence.

I think he's pretty average.
Certainly better than the Leander days though!

He's been fine. I really haven't noticed him, which means he hasn't annoyed me with dumb sayings or wrong information yet.

He's a little bland. After being the sideline reporter for so long, it just sounds like he's continuing to talk into the gameplay. If that makes any sense.

But I like hearing Eddie Johnson. Somebody needs to talk to him. Do you really think Ray is bad or is it just that he's nondescript?

I think he's just vanilla. Boring, no enthusiasm, if you could listen to paint dry, that'd be him. Was not a big fan of Albert either, but I think we've taken a step back.
I do enjoy EJ, but on the nights its Ann.. Woof, no thanks, I wanna bleach my ears.

I agree about his delivery. At least Albert had some exciting calls. His Ulis game winner call last year was great and is featured currently in NBA League Pass commercials.

I don’t care that he is bland. At least he’s not annoying. He’s a step above Meyers, Albert, Chambers, Leander, Bender and Casey Jacobsen.

Right. Vanilla ice cream is fine with me.

Settling for mediocrity is what this franchise is all about! I'm sure he came cheap, which is $aver's M.O.

After listening to so many different annoying people for so many years, I am happy with bland but, on point. I don’t need Marv Albert. Al McCoy was the Godfather and it was a sad day that he stopped doing TV. I really enjoy Eddie Johnson as color guy over anybody else by a long stretch. K-Ray sounds professional. I’ll settle with him if it means I don’t have to listen to any of those other people.
