Josh Jackson a no-show for fan appearance

The Phoenix Suns are a glorious mess.

Wednesday started with Suns interim general manager James Jones defending the franchise after an unfavorable report from Adrian Wojnarowski. It ended with Jones showing up to a Phoenix grocery store in the middle of the night because Josh Jackson skipped an advertised public appearance.

The solution: Free beer.

This could only happen to the Suns.

Jackson was scheduled to make an appearance at the Fry’s grocery store on 20th and Camelback from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. It was a sponsored autograph signing with Dos Equis called Fiesta De Los Suns. The second-year forward from Kansas was a no-show to the event.

Good for Jones for stepping in and handling the situation. There should be staff making sure Jackson knows about the appearance and making sure he's there. Something could've slipped thru the cracks. If he just plain blew off the appearance, not cool and he should face a punishment.

Did they look for an upside down car on the road? He may have had a turnover on the drive.

I heard they actually caught him building a wall on the other part of town, which isnt surprising, because he loves laying bricks.

He has the potential to make the appearance. Maybe next year after he gets stronger.

The autograph session was scheduled from 6:30 to 7:30. Jones came after that to break the news to the disappointed fans. Jackson told the Arizona Republic he had some “family issues” to address at the time of the event.

“I apologize for the inconvenience,” Jackson said. “I wish I really could’ve been there for the fans.”

The Suns later announced they fined Jackson for “violation of team rules.”

Jackson has done his share of events that included providing 21 kids from $200 each for the holidays at Dick’s Sporting Goods. The second-year player out of Kansas said he plans to make it up to those who attended Wednesday's event.
Does "family issues" mean his friend's birthday party?

Maybe this is what WW was talking about before he was drafted?

I don't disagree but why is it the organization's fault Josh Jackson flaked out?

I referred to his physical altercation with a woman in college. Boneheaded thing to do, and asserted that violence against women is frequently a sign of other negative activities and traits. I asserted that players who are knuckleheads rarely stop being that way.

Sadly, I cannot tell if this failure to show up was a result of him being a knucklehead, or a symptom of the malaise and DGAF attitude of most of our players (which trickles down from frustrations over the FO failing to GAF, but also being incompetent).

We still don't know the circumstances. Not trying to make an excuse here, but there are moving parts to player appearances and I don't know the protocol with the Suns. But if it were a partner appearance, the person on the partner account prob put a request in for the appearance. Usually there's a BOps person dealing with player appearance requests and lines up players for the appearances....from there, a number of things can slip thru the cracks. Did the person on the partner account follow up with BOps to confirm JJ the day before or day of? Did BOps confirm with JJ? Hell the request could've been put in and confirmed a month ago with JJ and he could've forgotten and made other plans. Was there a Suns staffer - from BOps or partnerships - at the location checking to see where JJ was when he didn't arrive and managing the crowd and expectations?

Now if everything was confirmed with JJ the day before or something and he clearly knew about the event and blew it off, it would certainly change my view of him.

I disagree with Jackson....this was a public event, the consequences needed to be public. But I understand what he’s saying. A lot of internal things don’t need to be made public. He’s just wrong about this specific occurrence.

Maybe fining them and keeping it in house hasn't been working then.

What a dumbass. That’s terrible reasoning. He would’ve been better off keeping his mouth shut
