I saw a Dubs fan propose that the Warriors may offer their projected top 3 pick and the Iggy trade exception for Oubre.

What do you all think of that?
I'm a big believer in Oubre's value to this team, but this is a move that would likely guarantee that we could add either Obi Toppin or Tyrese Haliburton. I'd really have to consider that.

I didn’t really want Gallo or Millsap. Still enough money to get Grant or Wood if we want. Enough to get Bertans as well.
I'll take Millsap on the cheap. I don't think teams will be lining up to pay him with his injury issues and age.

I’d be ok with that. The article was talking about not having enough money to sign him because we will drop to 19 million in space. It shouldn’t take more than 19 million a year to sign Millsap. I’d also want to stay away from a multi year contract.

I don't see a lot of value in returning Saric or Baynes. Baynes has perceived value for what he did as a starter. He performed significantly worse as a reserve, and that is his role on this team going forward.

Saric was mediocre. And this is coming from someone who applauded his addition. It just didn't work out. I think Saric would better of in Golden State, Toronto, or Houston.

Agreed. Saric was ok at times, but I think we can find someone more useful. I was hoping Saric would shoot better than he did. Baynes was great early, but that looks more like a fluke. I’d let them both walk.

I’d prefer someone who can provide good shooting and defense at the 4. Grant or millsap on a 1 year deal. Christian Wood is the one high upside guy who could be really interesting. Or just grab an elite shooter like Bertans.

Yeah, I agree on both. I am nervous on letting Baynes get away, as I couldn't tell if it was just him still being hurt when he was the backup or just not great in that role.

To me it all depends on the money. I'd take some of those guys back, but not for a very large contract. If they want raises over their 2019 salary, they can go. I think Saric is the one I have the least enthusiasm for; I still like Baynes, but I suspect he'll get an overpriced next contract based on his play for us last year. No thanks.

So many of our guys were really up and down last season. It's hard to say how much the suspensions and injuries affected them. It seemed like a player would find his stride and then something would happen and everyone had a different role. Booker, Oubre, Bridges, Cam, and Carter handled the changes throughout the season the best. We just needed 2 or 3 more guys to be decent on any given night.

Inf already mentioned Rubio's nice run before the shutdown.
Baynes had a few stretches of good play followed by injuries and poor play coming back.
Saric's last 8: 14.5/6.4/1.9 on .575/.560/.783
Kaminsky's last 22 before his injury: 12.3/4.9/2.3 on .498/.425/.640

I wouldn't mind bringing Baynes and Kaminsky back if we strike out on guys like Wood. Kaminsky especially will probably be cheap, and I honestly think he can replicate those good numbers across a season if we don't ask him to fill in for Ayton.

Saric is probably going to play really well for someone else next year and we will hear about how he was battling injuries all season but didn't tell the trainers.

Signing them to multi year deals would be killer...if we want to pass on this FA class, bringing them back on 1 year deals wouldn’t be terrible, but doesn’t do much for us. I’d just stay away all together.

The way I see it, we have 6 rotation pieces on the roster(Rubio, Booker, Bridges, Oubre, Ayton, Johnson) We need to add at least two sure fire rotation pieces. One in the backcourt and one in the front court. Then add depth. If we let everyone go, we’ve got 20 million and the 10th pick. Plus the development of Jerome.

There’s a few draft guys I think we could rely on to play rotation minutes next year(Haliburton, Toppin, Vassell) but most will probably be situational rotation guys.

If Toppin falls and we draft him at 10, I’d feel ok spending a big chunk of our cap space on a guard. Otherwise, I think our big FA spending needs to be in the frontcourt.

Right now my ideal scenario is to draft Haliburton. I’d feel comfortable giving him rotation minutes off the bench from the get go. Then focus on 4’s in FA. Wood, Grant, Millsap, Bertans. Grab a backup 1 with the leftover money(Napier?) Then use the room MLE to add another big. Fill out the rest with minimum deals.

Rubio/Napier/Jerome
Booker/Haliburton/Lecque
Bridges/Johnson/Min FA
Oubre/Grant/Min FA
Ayton/Room MLE/Min FA

I think Haliburton is more of a PG than SG. He's in the vein of SGA and Lonzo, imo. Long, lean multi-positional defenders and distributors. I don't think he will fall to 10th.

What you call him doesn’t really matter. He’s got playmaking skills, but he’s not a primary scorer off the dribble. He does have some similarities to SGA, who has spent his early career playing mostly next to a smaller ball handler.

He’s just a good basketball player. He’s smart, he makes the right pass. He can shoot. I’m not sure he makes it to 10 either, but we’ll see.

As it looks like the Suns are going to be slotted at 10(not like they've moved up in 37 yrs), I wonder bringing the trade with the Pistons and getting Kennard could happen.

Then, when free agency starts, try to do a sign & trade with Saric and a pick going to Chicago for Markkanen.

I would spend a lot on a specialist for a year to Bertans.

Word is that Jakob Poeltl may be released by SA to avoid the luxury tax, so I would try a MLE on him as Baynes probably goes elsewhere in FA.

Lastly, I would try to bring over Shane Larkin from Euro League as the backup PG.

What do you guys think?

I do think we'll end up with some combo of Kennard and Aaron Gordon. I don't think Markkanen will be had for so little and not sure what we could offer in return. Doubt we'll end up with Bertans. Poeltl would be a fine backup big. Love Shane Larkin, have wanted him on the team for a few years but not sure of his euro situation.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get Gordon. But I am worried about acquiring him. We've discussed him before, but his 3-point shooting is really problematic to me. 30.1% this season. I just don't know if you can win in 2021 in the NBA with Ayton as your C and Gordon as your PF; I like both of these guys, but that's a huge decrease in your spacing.

I definitely share your trepidation about acquiring Gordon for the same reason. I would rather save the money for a later date, tbh.

Gordon was shooting a lot better when the season was suspended. Still not exactly sure we need him with Oubre here though.

Edit: I guess he was really good in February...pretty awful in March though.
