Thanks for the thread, old timer.

These articles are appropriately bleak.

Al McCoy this morning said the Suns are beginning games with a lack of fire and preparedness.
Other teams are noticing that Suns are not physical and are taking it to them early, with little or no response from Phoenix.
He also said Ayton should post up more earlier in the game.
The philosophy of him setting up high and establishing picks for shooters isn't working.

Ayton posting from 12-14ft out, turning, facing and shooting a jumper isn't any better than Shamet or CP or Mikal working for a shot on the perimeter. If Ayton posted, drove at his man and attacked the rim trying to get fouled, I'd agree with that strategy. But he faces up for jumpers or puts up his hook for 2pts that are basically empty points.

If he could get to the line about 8-10 times a game, he would help the team and offense tremendously. I just don't see him changing his game to that any time soon.

Well, that tactic didn't work against the Knicks, with Shamet heaving more bricks than a drunken mason.
I tend to listen to what Al says because he's seen a few Suns games ...

Let's not be greedy. Let's start with 4-6 times a game.

And maybe put a little more arc on his shot. Even his FTs are flat.

I'm not arguing the strategy, I'm arguing the execution. If we had someone down low like Embiid, I'd be all for more post ups.

James Jones is now telling Burns and Gambo that he is not ruling out a big roster shakeup before the deadline, depending on how the team plays.

Cant wait til this mf goes out and reacquires Jalen Smith for a 1st.

Here's the audio of Al this morning:

And you all think I'm too much of an Ayton homer...at least I'm willing to criticize Ayton's lack of rebounding.

Right?
At this point, he needs to figure something out, since they have no one that pressures the rim or opposing defense. No one available on the team right now can get to the line regularly and keep defenses honest.

A big roster shakeup, to me, would mean some combo of Mikal/the Cams/DA going out in a deal for a big name player(s). Trading Shamet, Dario, Jae, TC, etc for different role players would seem lateral.

I think trading more than just Crowder and maybe Saric would count as a shakeup to JJ. Basically if anyone from the rotation is moved.

I think the way Gambo asked it was whether the roster would look pretty much the same or a lot different after the deadline.

Well, that's different. Internal development alone isn't enough anymore?

Teams can start signing 10-day contracts tomorrow. Will be interested to see what we do, if anything. Suns have an open spot and Payne may be out a bit again. I can’t see a reason not to sign someone. Mo Harkless? Cousins*? Bueller?
*not happening with CP on the roster but he’d help the offense.

I would hope we would sign a point guard.
