The Summer Suns are here! This is the precursor to the newly run Ishbia Suns. The new Summer League head coach is Quinton Crawford. Of course the two big names to watch is our acquisition in the Beal trade, Jordan Goodwin, and our sole rookie from the draft, Toumani Camara.

Go Suns!!!

Quinton Crawford brings chill, yet determined demeanor to Summer Suns

Image

Summer League coach Quinton Crawford may be new to the Phoenix Suns’ coaching staff, but that’s not to say he doesn’t know a thing or two about basketball in the desert.

Well before joining the coaching world, Crawford was focused on putting the ball in the basket as a member of the Arizona Wildcats from 2011-13 that included a Sweet Sixteen run.

But it was the opportunity Crawford got post-playing career that led him to where he is today.

Both Goodwin and Camara are doing well in the early going.

Toumani Papi looks like he knows how to play basketball. Can't be said for a lot of the Suns previous picks.

As INF basically said previously, Goodwin is too good for this Summer League.

Still nice to watch him be the best player on the court.

Yeah, seems like maybe I've been too hard on JJ given his apparent constraints under Sarver.

Timme is making quite a difference on the court. A calming presence for them.

Being smart can take you a long way in Summer League.

Not a good game for Nico Manion. He's filled out a bit physically, but still can't really shoot.

Camara is going to get a shot at the rotation.

Goodwin took a couple of hard spills. Probably good that he sat the rest of the game. He is a great defender but offensively his handle isn’t quite good enough to be a 1, not really breaking down defenses. Camara was great, but also loose handles. As a wing defender who makes the right plays I think he is already 80% there. But those threes he missed, if he hit another one at least, would’ve made me feel much better.

Great motor from Jemison. Wouldn’t mind a two way for him to make our guys work in practice.

Mannion is not an NBA player.

Nico looked good yesterday. Wasn’t able to catch this one so can’t comment but looks like he shot poorly.

So Toumani looks good? Being 23 really helps as far as composure out there I bet.

I thought Goodwin handled the ball fine, but yeah, he's not going to beat defenders 1v1 with his handle.

Camara basically can't dribble attack at all at this point, which is fine because I don't think that'll be required of him. We knew he could shoot it a bit, but I was impressed with his athleticism and nose for the ball off of the glass.

Most of the other Suns players were solid for a SL team, yet I don't think any really have a chance since the Suns don't have a G-League team yet.

He bricked everything. He's more composed than previously, but still not a great athlete and combining that with an inability to shoot with consistency or be a pest defensively means he's still pretty far away. He doesn't really have an NBA skill at this point.

Camara looks really solid. Physically he's there as a stronger, built out 6-7ish 220-230lb wing. In a summer league setting where it's usually guards dominating and rushing things, he seemed to be playing at a slower more controlled pace so his overall experience was showing. Really good on the boards, showed good movement off the ball with his cutting and finding lanes to get open. His 3pt shot looked good off the catch and he worked inside a bit where his used his bulk to move a smaller player. Pretty encouraged by this first outing.

Goodwin's a big, physical guard but not really a PG. He's more of a ballhandler than someone like Okogie in that he can bring it up and initiate some offense, but that's about it. He could be a nice piece to throw out against opposing guards and just hound them.

I really liked Jemison's size and athleticism. Looked pretty agile and bouncy. Could make for a nice developmental big if we had the roster space.
