The Good Deals Thread

I thought we should have a place to pass along good deals we find online, cool new products, etc. For example, this morning someone I work with turned me on to this:
metromile.com
Basically, it's "per mile" car insurance. I work about 3 miles from home and in the 7 months I've had my car, I've put about 1,300 miles on it. Between my wife (also a short commute) and I, we pay almost $250/month in car insurance regardless of how much we drive. I ran a free quote on MetroMile and it would cost me about $100/mo. combined for both cars - for the same coverage plan. Pretty incredible savings. It's also insured by the state and backed by Amtrust, so it's legit.
Definitely worth checking out.

This would be awesome if I didn't telecommute.

Or if I didn't drive 110 miles a day on my commute.

Isn't that even better? Unless you don't have a car.

It is coming to an end this summer as my youngest takes off for college. I'll be selling and moving closer to work. The problem is that San Diego is expensive!

That it is. I'm surprised you can't work from anywhere.

Oof. I had an 80 mile a day commute not long ago and it was brutal. Thankfully it was against traffic. 110 seems torturous.

The good thing is that my hours are offset so no traffic.

Unfortunately not. They want us there for my job. Plus, there is a lot of extra equipment on top of a state of the art computer.

A friend just turned me on to
http://www.govdeals.com/
From the website, "GovDeals provides services to various government agencies that allow them to sell surplus and confiscated items via the Internet. Each participating agency has its own auction rules and regulations and may be subject to government ordinances."
They also sell unclaimed packages from the Post Office, from what I'm told.
Dealnews.com is also a great website that updates daily.
