The rules are designed to deter collisions by penalizing the player most responsible.

If an offensive player plows into a set defender, that’s his fault. We try to deter it by calling it a charging foul.

If a defender slides under an airborne offensive player, that’s his fault. We try to deter it by calling it a blocking foul.

When these collisions happen anyway, it’s because both players think they can win the race to the spot. The one who’s wrong gets the foul. I don’t see a better way to handle it.

Slap fight.

Dance battle

Cook off.

Thumb wrestle.

Cornhole.

There's lots of ways to settle it like gentleman.

Incentivize plays on the ball and deincentivize non plays on the ball…simple

The whole foul/charge play is one of the most dangerous plays in basketball. Maybe it's different elsewhere, but we never called or allowed charges to be called during pickup games. If you tried to take one, it was a foul on you, no matter how clean it was. And then, you would get ridiculed and mocked for attempting to do it the rest of the day. I doubt that it's much different for NBA players in off-season pickup games, where they are calling their own fouls.
People who take charges in pickup are terrible humans
That's my* deciding factor when determining if they are good or evil too, haha.

Depends on the situation. Are you playing to win? Is it win or lose the court? Are you doing the other team a favor by forcing it out of a BH's hands?

I've never seen an offensive foul in pickup ball. Players don't go barrelling into each other either. It's so bad in the NBA because the offensive player is forcing contact to get the foul called. These charge calls are the offense players fault. Don't penalize good defense.

Offensive players don’t force contact against help defenders…they do that to the primary defender. I don’t think we are talking about the same thing

Maybe he wants to see what he could do with a #1 pick... Can a guy dream a little?
