I think that in exchange for our pick or whatever agreed-upon considerations, they just mutually reach an agreement with Bud to terminate his contract. Technically you cannot "trade" a pick for a coach, so they do it as two separate transactions, where we trade them our first round pick for a heavily protected 2nd-rounder or something that will never really convey, or cash considerations, or something like that.ShelC wrote:How does it work with the contract. Think he's got 2 years 14 mil left? Is that contract torn up and we negotiate a new one? I'd be ok with him at 2 years, 7 mil a year. Add on a 3rd year with incentives or something.

Its a huge over pay. No team has ever given up that high of a pick for a coach before. And honestly, Atlanta is paying him for the GM and coaching position. The Clips gave up a late first for Doc. Milwaukee gave up two seconds for Kidd (not nearly as much as the #16 in this draft). It should not take nearly that much. The real trick is convincing Bud. From there its all easy. I think #31 would be an overpay and Atlanta might be really happy with trading #19 for #16 as compensation.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote:I think that's the best choice. We are so desperate that we are offering a first round pick for a coach who is asking out? No. If they ask for compensation, we offer Cash Considerations.

Bright Side with a nice write-up on the coaching search. It includes an interesting take on James Jones' role.

Apparently, the reason Robert Sarver has finally stopped sitting in the coach’s office for hours after every game talking strategy and lamenting bad play is thanks to James Jones convincing Sarver those sessions are just simply not productive.

The fact that needed to be done in the first place with Sarver being the owner for nearly 15 years is infuriating.

Yea hadn't realized it was Budz who asked permission. Still, we need to make it happen. And I'd be perfectly fine with Triano staying on as assistant if it can be worked out.

We'd need a good defensive mind as well. Triano could be useful for continuity but somebody needs to have these guys to focus on defense.ShelC wrote:Yea hadn't realized it was Budz who asked permission. Still, we need to make it happen. Budz has a defensive rep no?
Even so, you need defensive players. Booker's not scaring anyone, same with TJ. Jackson's got it, Bender should be better but there's not much else on the roster. The Hawks have also had some strong defensive players in Bazemore, Carroll, Horford, Millsap. In 14-15 they were 6th in defensive rating, 15-16 they were 2nd, and this year 4th without any of the guys previously mentioned. Hell, he even got Tim Hardaway Jr to play D.

I was just catching up with AZ radio and I was glad to hear that Majerle has a lot of respect for McD as he reached out to him a couple years ago after the Blabby distancing disaster and wanted to keep him in the Suns' family.

Good answer. I thought he was known more for his offensive schemes, although coming from the Pop tree I wouldn't be surprised he was good at D too. Still, we are so terrible defensively (and overall lack the players) that I believe we should invest heavily on a defensive coordinator instead of Triano, if it comes down to it.ShelC wrote:Budz has a defensive rep no?

Re: Suns Coach 2018-19
Kenny Atkinson was his top offensive/development assistant in ATL so I think we'd need an offensive coach in the mix too. ATL's offense slipped after Kenny left I think, but that's also because they stripped the team of so much talent.
Re: Suns Coach 2018-19
I'm OK with Bud. But i'm not OK with ANY first round compensation picks. Second round I'd live with but the Suns shouldn't be trading picks for anyone not named Popovich.
Also a side note. My friend here in Indianapolis has worked a job in the room service business for over 10 years. He has told me about all the NBA players and coaches he's delivered room service to and one name that stands out is David Fizdale. He always tells me whenever he delivers to Fizdale's room that has a call girl/escort/hooker in there every time. Sometimes multiple females. I guess I expect that thing more from players but when I hear about it with coaches it's odd to me. My friend described his interaction with Fizdale as being a cool guy but I think because of this, me personally, I would be a little weird if he were the next head coach of the Suns.

I obviously dont know the man, but he's always seemed like a good dude, so its a little hard to believe that. Also, have you seen Fizdales wife?
Re: Suns Coach 2018-19
Just passing the info along how it was told to me. Came from a good friend who is a big NBA fan. Started telling me stories about Fizdale when he was an assistant on the Heat. Says he has seen this on multiple occasions with different women. I have not seen his wife. I doubt my friend has either. I would say then if it were a single person maybe it was his wife but this was multiple women. Different each time. Maybe it's part of the NBA Cares: Homes for Hookers program I don't know
Not trying to condemn the guy. Just saying dude has hookers in his hotel rooms. Weird to me to hear that about a coach.
