Suns Trade for Tyler Johnson/Wayne Ellington
Re: Suns Trade for Tyler Johnson/Wayne Ellington
Solid trade. We turned a useless end of the bench guy into a serviceable guard and a small expiring contract just for doing Miami the favor of saving them some luxury tax $$.
Re: Suns Trade for Tyler Johnson/Wayne Ellington
I was reading some Suns Twitter, and the argument they were making is, Anderson was dead weight this year and next. Even if we had cut him, we would have had to pay almost all of his salary next year. So at least Tyler Johnson is a usable rotation player in that same salary slot. And Miami saves a few bucks. So everybody gets something. I guess that is a decent argument for the trade. And I'll be hopeful that Johnson can give us some good minutes as a bench guard. (Another TJ, just what this team needs!)
Re: Suns Trade for Tyler Johnson
Right, I said that earlier. We added 3.6 million. Was responding to WW saying he’d take up all our cap space.INFORMER wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 2:43 pmThat is not accurate. Tyler Johnson has more guaranteed money owed to him for the 2019-20 than Anderson. So this does eat into the Suns potential cap space.
Also,Tyler Johnson isn't a point guard. The Heat play him there in tandem with Wade, who handles the ball a lot.
We're taking on a little more salary without any real benefit. This is a move we should have passed on unless we have something lined up to get some value out of Ellington.

Having Tyler Johnson in your rotation is not a good thing.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 2:45 pmSo at least Tyler Johnson is a usable rotation player in that same salary slot.

I watched a bunch of his highlights: definite rotation player, heady combo guard, good defender, competitive spirit, comes off screens and hits 3s or dives into the lane, can hit the open man, good ball handler. Looks like he was just over paid. With the suns he will have the opportunity to prove himself.

I don't completely hate this trade but I certainly don't love it either. I know we need a point guard but honestly I think I'd rather watch Melton and Okobo learn on the job for the rest of the season

He can't be a good defender. What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

Ha! You just know we are singing Dudley again as our starting PF next year. And bringing back Daniels on a 4 year/40M deal.

Seems like he’s got a lot of fight in him. He gets chase down blocks and irritates his opponents. I’m terrified of losing Booker, so anyone who wants to put on a hard hat and can take big shots is welcome here. He’s not a defensive liability like Crawford or Daniels and not an offensive liability like Melton and Okobo. So he’s an upgrade. Booker is getting his ass beat in the fourth because No one else can be relied on to nail a bucket or create his own shot.Indy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 2:53 pmHe can't be a good defender. Stats say he's a bad defender. -1.5 DRPM (well below average, bottom 25th percentile). NBA math puts him at -4.59, which is below average. NBA Advanced stats has his DEFRTG at 105.8, which is a little below average. His OFFRTG is 103.1, which is very poor.Indy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 2:53 pmHe can't be a good defender. There's really not many ways to slice it: he's not a good player, we're paying him 19M, he doesn't address our needs at PG at all, and if he isn't buried on the bench we'll just be screaming at him because he couldn't find an open player if his life depended on it. Like, he makes Melton look like a great distributor.

I always liked Tyler Johnson when I've seen him play. Very gritty guy.

I’ve never even heard of Tyler Johnson and he’s making $19 mil? What the heck.
