Re: Around the League: The Off-season
The offseason is dreadfully dull this time of year. But with Summer League, the World Championships, and other things going on, there isn't much of the year that is dry of basketball news. I wouldn't call it a year-round sport, but maybe 11-months-a-year.
Re: Around the League: The Off-season
I time the basketball season by my swimming pool basketball season. The NBA season ends when it gets warm enough where I can go in the pool and shoot hoops. The NBA season starts when it gets too cold to go get in the pool.

Excited about Baynes. Should be a real nice addition.

Re: Around the League: The Off-season
He could be a wrinkle in the PF discussion if he continues to play like this. I can foresee a big lineup with him and Ayton in the front court.

Sixers have hired Roy Hibbert in a player development role. He's only 32.

Anyone been following the espn rankings of nba players?
Booker came in at #30, which is nice until you realize some of the guys ahead of him.
Trae Young at 28...what?
Jamal Murray and Deangelo Russell?
I’m fine if you put Mitchell ahead of booker, I wouldn’t personally, but 10 spots higher?
CJ McCollum at 13? Way, way too high.

Yeah, I saw that and had to laugh. On a positive note, Booker is 1 place higher than last year and 4 places higher than SI's ranking. I think when you look at a few guys ahead of him, then it seems odd to me.Split T wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 7:58 amAnyone been following the espn rankings of nba players?

I want someone to make a case for CJ being that high or ahead of Booker.

I think people look at the Portland roster and wonder how they went so far in the playoffs. They come to the conclusion that CJ must be better than they thought. CJ had some big moments in the playoffs, but he’s being overrated because of them.In2ition wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 9:01 amYeah, I saw that and had to laugh. The Trae Young one really blows my mind. He is actually kinda similar to booker in that he is very gifted offensively, abysmal defensively, and plays for a bad team. Only he’s not as good offensively and even worse defensively.
I can buy Doncic higher than booker, though Booker is better right now. Same with Mitchell. Fox is defensible. But Murray, Trae, and Russell? All are bad defenders with worse total numbers at lower efficiencies. I guess that’s what losing will do.
Re: Around the League: The Off-season
Yeah, losing really frames a person's impression of a player. If the Suns win, you could see a big jump for not just Devin, but a number of the Suns players.Split T wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 9:14 amI think people look at the Portland roster and wonder how they went so far in the playoffs. Re: Around the League: The Off-season
Interesting. I’d be all for it. Speeds up the game. Don’t understand why they’d go away from it in 4th/OT
Re: Around the League: The Off-season
Probably because it's greater importance and looking at all those 1 pt adds or minuses. Higher level of tension?
