Re: NBA Season Suspended due to COVID-19
My point was their suspected cases in Ohio is almost as much as the confirmed cases in the rest of the world combined. If true it would be a really bad thing. Since they are only testing a tiny fraction of the public it makes it hard to tell what the real picture is. Some people think that might be by design.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 8:18 pmYour first link involves countries where they are testing and that statistic is the reported number of infections.
The second link is about Ohio, where there isn't adequate testing and the statistic is the suspected number of infections.
I don't really see the connection between the two links you posted other than the US needs to do a better job of testing, but maybe that's what you're trying to emphasize.

I am not sure which team came up with that first, but it is a great idea.

Is it the AI / computer playing? Or will it be two actual people controlling the teams?
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

Over 400 new confirmed cases in US since yesterday.Indy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 1:11 pmAs of yesterday's totals CDC has over 1200 confirmed cases and 36 deaths. But for some reason they are excluding numbers from people that didn't seem to contract the virus while in the US, even if they were tested while in the US.O_Gardino wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 1:05 pmIm reading that there are about a dozen dead so far.virtual9mm wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 10:09 amDepends on if the medical system collapses. A South Korea or China ex-Wuhan scenario's about a 0.3 to 1% mortality rate -- the medical system has to hold for that to materialize. A Wuhan or Milan scenario's about a 5% mortality rate -- the medical system will have been overwhelmed and otherwise treatable cases will lead to death. I suspect that it will vary widely across various regions of the US. Worried.Indy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 8:26 amEstimates are up to 150 million infected in the US alone. My wife had to go to the hospital this week, and the room next to hers had a COVID-19 patient in it toward the end. She and I both may have been exposed to it now. Pretty scary.
Re: NBA Season Suspended due to COVID-19
I hope you and your wife didn't contract it.

This is not good practice. You're probably ok but still not a good feeling.
I got some important new information. There are most likely very few people with mild cases that stay mild. This means two different things. On one hand, there will be few cases that remain undetected, meaning that the statistics from China (excluding Wuhan) and South Korea should be a fairly accurate measure of death rates -- 0.7 to 1.0%. On the other hand, there won't be many silent cases that ambush folks -- they'll be able to backtrace and quarantine fairly quickly. Overall, this is good news for "controlling" the virus but bad news if you happen to catch it.

According to some statistics, South Korea has tested 3500 people per million population -- and as of the beginning of last week, the US has tested 5 people per million. You had the first confirmed case of the virus in Korea and the US on the very same day.specialsauce wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 1:41 pmIt’s a joke. We’ve asked for testing of patients and been declined several times already.

To answer my own question:
https://thesmokingcuban.com/2020/03/14/ ... ka-doncic/
I think they should have taken out the human equation and had it set up for AI vs AI.In the meantime, the Phoenix Suns decided to play out the games on NBA2K. It began with a matchup against the Dallas Mavericks which they streamed on Twitch. Antonio Saldivar played as the Suns. He is a member of Grizz Gaming in the 2K League. Lawrence “Buddy” Norman controlled the Mavs. He is the brand ambassador for Mavericks gaming.
It was a monster performance from Luka Doncic that secured the victory for the Mavs. He finished with 50 points and 19 assists as Dallas picked up the 150-136 win.

Why not? If you made it in less games, you made it!Cap wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 4:07 pmIt’s a pretty sure thing they won’t take Bone’s suggestion of paying on the over bets that made it and refunding the ones that didn’t.iLLmatic wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 3:34 pmMaybe they'll just use winning percentage instead?
Anyway, this Covid-19 induced layoff may ultimately help my bet. I'm reading that the NBA is going to do it's best to finish the full schedule even if it means going late into the year. I know it helps get every team healthy but the Suns were worse off than most. We were in the midst of losing Cam for two weeks and now he'll be fully recovered. There's even a good chance that Oubre is recovered enough from meniscus surgery to play. Ayton will be fully recovered. I'm ready to cash my bets!

Because they’d go broke. You’re proposing rules under which everybody who placed an “over” bet either wins or gets a refund. The bettor can win but the house can’t.Superbone wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 3:16 pmWhy not?Cap wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 4:07 pmIt’s a pretty sure thing they won’t take Bone’s suggestion of paying on the over bets that made it and refunding the ones that didn’t.iLLmatic wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 3:34 pmMaybe they'll just use winning percentage instead?

I heard and interesting idea on the radio the other day suggesting the NBA have all teams make the playoffs and have best of 3 for a couple of rounds before the “real” playoffs start.Superbone wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 3:16 pmWhy not? Gambo also suggested the NBA is interested to see how ratings, etc. are late into the summer. He said they would rather start regular season later in the year to have to compete with the NFL less for ratings.

I've heard that a lot of sports betting places don't want to win too many bets. They make their money on the fees they charge to place the bets, so they want to as many bettor win as they can afford to keep them coming back.Cap wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 3:39 pmBecause they’d go broke. I don't know about the specific place where 'Bone placed his bet, but it's possible they do take a hit on that one specific type of bet for the good publicity.

A Vegas casino, IINM, who probably isn’t in a mood to be generous right now. It won’t be surprising if casinos are forced to close by the pandemic. They will almost certainly be getting fewer visitors.O_Gardino wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 4:23 pmI've heard that a lot of sports betting places don't want to win too many bets.
