Suns News: Week 20 3/9-3/15
Re: Suns News: Week 20 3/9-3/15
Yea f**k McD. There's no discussion as far as I'm concerned.
You also forgot to mention screwing the pooch with the Morris Bros, which submarined an entire season and pretty much cut Hornacek's legs out from under him. Hornacek was forced to let go of his assistants midseason (who does that?) only to be fired later on. Then he gave the cheerleader Earl Watson the job without interviewing anyone else only to fire Watson a year later.
Totally clueless. Wasted 5 years of this franchise and nearly an entire roster of draft picks.

He definitely greatly mismanaged Bledsoe’s time here, but the trade was still good. Even the contract wasn’t terrible. Sticking with Bledsoe over IT/Dragic and then continuing to keep him around when he was unhappy and we sucked was the problem.Superbone wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 11:11 amUltimately, this was a HUGE loss. It is the biggest domino that caused us to come crashing down in time. I guess you could say resigning him for 70 mil was the big failure. Riding him out was a big time loss. I really only enjoyed the one year with MIP Dragic and the surprising 48 win season.
Probably the best scenario would have been a sign and trade during the summer we signed him to that 70 mil contract. The damage was done during that 14-15 season...once Dragic was gone, we didn’t need to trade IT. IT/Bledsoe could have worked. But once we traded him as well and it was apparent Bledsoe/Knight was not leading us to the playoffs, we should have traded him. Instead we stuck with that a couple years until Bledsoe was fed up with the losing and had to go public to get out.

Split T, here's how I read your post (grrrrrrr!!):
Split T wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 10:17 amHaha, is it in doubt? What’s the argument for him doing well? I guess I could listen, but outside of a couple decent trades(some of which made us better when that wasn’t his plan) and a couple draft picks, he was pretty much a failure across the board.
Here’s his wins:
Dudley for Bledsoe. Regardless of how the Bledsoe situation worked out, we won this trade.
The Isaiah Thomas signing. Great value. Though he butchered the aftermath.
Dragic for 2 1sts. Great value, though the trade only had to happen because he pissed off our best player to begin with.
Drafting Booker. Drafting Warren is probably a win too. We got Warren at 14 and he’s a top 10 guy from that draft.
He got a 1st out of Markieff, but after he created the reason to trade him in the 1st place.
Traded Scola for Green, Plummer, and a 1st. Can’t remember if we got a 1st out of that one, but either way it was good. Green was a big part of that 13-14 team.
Am I missing any?
Here’s his failures:
Dumping Gortat when that 13-14 team was very good and coulda used a solid 5
Mismanaging the Bled/Dragic/IT situation, forcing a Dragic trade.
Keeping the wrong one of the 3. Seriously, why did we even make the IT trade? IT was fine, he had no problems, and we dumped him for a late 1st?
Trading for Knight...giving up the Laker 1st to get him too.
Giving Knight that huge contract.
Drafting Bender, Chriss, Jackson. Not to mention trading up for Chriss and giving up Bogdon in the process.
Pursuing Aldridge and Lebron
Taking Ayton over Doncic.
Did he make any solid moves that weren’t necessitated by previous mistakes or that he didn’t later screw up?
I guess just drafting Booker.
Re: Suns News: Week 20 3/9-3/15
Haha, ya in hindsight that is pretty easily the worst single move he made

You could count Knight's good games on one hand.

I just can't listen to that podcast. Anybody have recommendations for good Suns podcasts (although probably not much going on now).
Re: Suns News: Week 20 3/9-3/15
I don't listen to any Suns-specific podcasts. For NBA content I listen to the Dunc'd On Podcast, the Ringer podcasts including their NBA Show / Book of Basketball / Redraftables, the Hollinger & Duncan Show, and the No Dunks (aka The Starters / Basketball Jones). That's about enough NBA podcast content to get me through each week; the rest are news/politics for me.
Re: Suns News: Week 20 3/9-3/15
I mostly do the ringer podcasts(I enjoy the KOC and Vernon show) and Zach Lowe podcast. I have a few suns podcasts on my feed, but don’t listen to them regularly. Only if something peeks my interest.

I forgot to list Lowe; I listen to him, too. His is the best nerdy/stat-driven wonky podcast IMO. Nate Duncan is similarly geeky about his hoops, but I find his podcast a little dry at times. Very informative, though, when he goes through all 30 teams (or all 15 in a conference) in an episode.
Re: Suns News: Week 20 3/9-3/15
Yeah, I like Lowe although I don't listen regularly. If a topic looks really interesting I will put it on.
I used to listen to Duncan, but he is way too full of himself for me. I just can't take him. I will have to try some of the Ringer stuff.

There are plenty of lesser players in there already.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 8:18 amThe Athletic makes the HoF case for Shawn Marion: https://theathletic.com/1803887/

The ring should seal it for Matrix.
Re: Suns News: Week 20 3/9-3/15
Speaking of rings, how about we start with the Suns Ring of Honor?

Honestly, it broke my heart when he wanted to be traded and then turned his back on the franchise. I'm sure there were reasons, but I thought that Shawn was going to be a Sun for life.

Yeah, he deserves to be there.
I have only bought one Suns jersey ever and it has 31 on it.
