True. He’s good at avoiding fouls... on both sides of the ball.Split T wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 9:14 pmYa but he just watched Doncic stroll past him for 2 uncontested layupsSuperbone wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 8:57 pmHe lasted it quite a while. Wow!
What a game, Referees make me sick the 2nd quarter almost as much as the team’s play in the first, I was ready to start doing something else and just keep the game as background noise the moment they put Devin on 4th, but since Monty keeps him in as well as Ayton, I wanted to see how they would react to the pressure, Devin did well, Refs have to force that 5th, but DeAndre lost it and almost was trying to go for his. Once they both hit 5th, it was game over, doesn’t it?
But Rubio rallied the troops, didn’t force some scoring push on him, and instead started working for the best looks he could, and the bench responded. That’s veteran leadership, and every team needs it ON THE COURT (We learned the hard way that your veterans can not lead and perform as your 9th, 10th best player), you can’t roll with pure potential and draft kids year after year. Hopefully this put some ice on all that “let’s dump Rubio for capspace” talk. Some unsung shots from Payne and out of nowhere we got the lead!!!
4th quarter was a thriller, with the guys clashing teeth and nails, 5 on 5 against Doncic, KP and the three refs, thanks God no other Mav played tonight. I agree with Monty, a playoffs spot is too far fetched, but this game and another one with as much growing experience, and it will be worth the travel. He gambled with his rotations and substitutions tonight, for a genius/dumb level of risk that tonight looked genius, he he.

The past two games were the first complete games I've watched in quite some time. Worthwhile.
Having Cam Payne play like a proper backup PG and Dario Saric playing like the player we expected makes a huge difference. As well as Cam Johnson turning into the gunner that we were hoping for.
It is getting about time for Ayton to have a breakout game.

Agree to disagree then. You are not the only one looking to dump Rubio or some other of the shallow pool of talent that we are just putting together (having botched back-to-back-to-back draft picks in the roster doesn’t count as talent), talent is beyond age and potential, no team can sustain having 3-4 all stars on their roster beyond 3-4 years, not even three (OKC, Miami, GS, etc), the league is shifting away from the super team model, because it can’t be sustained, and is going back to the two TOP talent surrounded by role players. To do so, you are forced to surround your best players, your All Stars with second and third tier talent. If you want a young, sharp shooting, great distributor as your PG, there you go with one of your All Star spots devoted to it. So we have to put some flawed talent on the court as well, the key is to balance those flaws as a team, not constantly pursuing potentially flawless players. More often than not, it was only that we did not get to see them as close as our own,and the moment we get them we see their flaws. Same with drafting, the hope for development always take us to next year.INFORMER wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 10:33 pmNope! And no is talking about chasing pure potential and drafting kids. We have named Ayton and Booker our Top two, so that leave us with role players for the PG, SF and PF slots. The eternal hope for finding gems on the draft is not going to keep Booker in town much longer, so I think dumping Rubio for picks and talent to be recruited, will not sit him well, we already did that with Warren. A few post back you said that 30 million would suffice for up tu 4 quality players, I would like to see how is that, given the current salary structure in the league, I think it wouldn’t be enough for two.
Don’t get me wrong, people is what it is, and I have learned a lot from the “drafting or bust” wing of the board, and you specially are among the most articulated and less revisionist of all (to do re drafting and comparisons with hindsight on hand -or on eye- is not precisely hard). The ice remark wasn’t specifically for you, but obviously you are among the most vocal posters with such opinion. The good thing about pluraon opinions, it’s that force everyone to up their game, so the trade someone proposed (just an example) to dump Rubio and wasn’t well received, will evolve into a better version looking for a wider and warmer reception. It’s great to keep reading the reasons you have to dump him, I learn a lot, and even if you don’t get the same learning from me and the other non-dumping poster (just to name one disagreement) you are still growing because of the adversity.
So, great to read that you will keep bringing to the table dumping propositions, hopefully looking for a better value (ice) as more games like today’s, prove Rubio worth of staying here (my hope).

I really don't get the movement to dump Rubio, especially since Ayton can't really create his own offense yet -- he needs a pick n roll initiator.

I have no idea how we won that game. So ugly. Refs were awful and we made some young boneheaded fouls too. Kudos to the bench mob for sparking the win and so happy mavs went 3 wild and missed them all

Agreed. Definitely not a complete team. The Bobster wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 8:53 pmNot that impressed with Dallas - Donic and Porzingis are both great offensively, but the Mavericks don't really have much else, and their defense is average at best.
