Game Day: Suns (55-14) @ Rockets (17-51), Wed 3/16/22

Not closing quarters very well…rockets shoot a lot of 3s and they can hang when they hit them..we need to do a better job of making those tougher shots.

Also not really sure why we went to the Biyombo at the 4 minutes…Houston is small and it seems unnecessary against them. Just hurts us on offense…though I guess Monty wanted to see what it’d look like. Imagine we go back to Wainright in the 2nd half.

Only watched part of the first quarter ... box score indicates the bench is not contributing anything.

Yea maybe Monty wasn't digging Ish at the 4? Don't love Biyombo in a big lineup here but it might just be a depth issue.
We gotta get Green out of rhythm. KPJ's hurt us just the same. The Rockets are 10-20 from three while we're 2-10 so that's gotta get balanced out.

But rockets really suck tho, so I still expect us to win just probably gonna be a close one.

The Rockets take a lot of bad shots. Suns just have to get the rebound but Tate is a pain in the ass to keep off of the glass.

Suns with four players with 21 or more points.
Two with double figure rebounds.
Payne with 11 assists and only two turnovers.

This team is really fucking good.
And the depth is phenomenal - Payne, Johnson, McGee, Craig, Holiday, Biyombo, Shamet
They would be 13 or 14 deep if everyone was healthy.

Fun game, Rockets hit a ton of 3s until they didn't and that's when we took over. Some sloppy turnovers and choppy offense with the 2nd unit that let the Rockets stay close, but they couldn't maintain that shooting while Book got hot and closed it out.
Craig played his best game as a Sun with 21 and 14 with 3 assists and 2 blocks on a perfect line 8-8FGs, 3-3 3PTs, 2-2 FTs. He was everywhere on both sides of the ball, kind of Matrix-esque with no real plays run for him and just a menace on defense. Great to see the shooting carry over from last night as well.
Super impressed with Mikal's development as an off-the-dribble threat. He's reacting to the defense and putting the ball on the floor instinctively now to get to the rim consistently. The Rockets pissed him off in the 1st half and he really imposed his will on the game from that point on. You'd never know he played 36 minutes last night or 43 tonight. Even so, gotta try and cut back on those minutes when we get healthy.
We're still struggling a bit with Holiday and Shamet, which might be why Lundberg is heading over. Holiday's shaky at point and Shamet's still not providing much offense. We'll be better with CP back and Payne on the bench but Monty might not trust Holiday in a deep playoff run should we need an extra guard.

Holiday did give us 6 assists and 0 turnovers in limited minutes. I'll take that as the 3rd string PG. Only 1 FG attempt.ShelC wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 7:39 pmWe're still struggling a bit with Holiday and Shamet, which might be why Lundberg is heading over. What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

Nice win. Basically starters plus JaVale all played well, except arguably Payne. Book was nasty with his shooting, 36 points on 15-24 fg. Ayton had a nice game and seemed to finally use his size to beat up on a lesser team. Bridges was everywhere and made several nice shots and drives. Craig did a great job filling in as a starter.
For the Rockets, Porter Jr impressed me a lot. I also really like Schroder; he just has a certain veteran savvy and toughness about him. He must be a huge A-hole because teams always seem eager to be rid of him. Rockets gave us a bit of a game here but in the end they couldn't keep up with us. Man we are such a good team.
