True legend. Sad to see so many leaving us recently.

I think Bill Russell in the modern nba would be a fascinating scenario to see play out. Such a great legend and honestly has been an incredible icon of the sport!

When I was a kid in the 70s the discussion was always Russell or Wilt for the greatest ever.
Somewhere along the line his fame faded a bit because he didn't have Wilt's eye-popping stats, but nobody won like he did.

Ya it seems when you are currently playing, stats aren’t necessarily the primary rating tool, but people forget all the other stuff and mostly go by stats when judging players from the past.
Whenever I try to make my all-time lists, I just get completely stumped with how to rank those pre-merger guys. I know Russell-Wilt-Oscar-Jerry-Elgin are all timers, just hard to compare them to today’s players. The game was so different.

I think you can only really access them by how they played against their peers. If you were great in the 60's and had all sorts of advantages that the current players have growing up, you're be great growing up now. It may no be a perfect way to look at things, but I think it's the most fair and open-minded one.Split T wrote: ↑Sun Jul 31, 2022 12:47 pmYa it seems when you are currently playing, stats aren’t necessarily the primary rating tool, but people forget all the other stuff and mostly go by stats when judging players from the past.

Uhura and Russell on the same day.

Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

Is there a good 30 or 60-minute documentary about Russell's life?

I think I saw it's tentatively scheduled for release on the 6th.
Re: Around the League News - 2022 Offseason Edition
This may or may not impact us, if there were to be a larger 3-4 team deal involving KD and Donovan Mitchell. The Knicks have a ton of draft picks, but could lose some if the NBA finds they tampered and takes some picks away.
Re: Around the League News - 2022 Offseason Edition
Think they’d only take 2nds away. I believe that’s what they did with Milwaukee and the Bogdonavic tampering.

Makes tampering worth it don’t nobody care about second round picks

It’d be the most Knick thing ever if the league decides to make an example of them and they lose a 1st so they can’t get Mitchell
