I think the "Ayton disappeared" narrative is being overblown. He put up the second most shots on the team--he just wasn't hitting them (and neither were Bridges or Booker). He was on pace for about 18 FGA per 36, along with 12 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1.5 blocks. I don't know how much more "active" you all expect him to be.
Thats a great pace, but what exactly did he put up? LOL, gimme a break.
He put up 12 FGA, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block in a little over 24 minutes.
Landale put up 8 FGA, 7 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, in 15 minutes.
He also doubled Ayton's score and only gets 1/20 of the money.

You didn’t even watch did you. It’s never about stats with him. It’s about style. Did he put the ball on the ground? Did he play with force? No he tossed up softies and stood around, passed the ball immediately as usual. Expectations are way higher now that he’s “Mr. Max”

It's going to be a Suns and Ayton conversation all year, I can already see. Let it go Jeremy. It has to get tiring defending Ayton day after day.
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton
I said during the first quarter that I would defend Ayton based on what I was seeing
The persons who saying they felt his energy wasn't good enough, I see their point but my whole issue with this which is getting lost in the whole stats debate is our System.....
I hate lack of recognition or adjustment. One of my first post was that Lakers going small ball and starting Gabriel but we came out running our standard stuff
Just calling Ayton out front for high pick n rolls or the dribble hand off for Book. Ayton had two offensive follow ups which he missed, and then finally with like 4mins left decided I haven't got a shot yet and attempted a top of the arc 3
I didn't like a decent amount of Book attempts in that first 8-9mins and I just don't understand if the camp talk is all this stuff DA been working on
Why we running our usual guard dominant offense which everyone agrees needs some wrinkles instead of just going to dude on the block with a 6'9 or whatever Gabriel is guarding him
Funny enough the first designed post up was when Damian Jones check in after a timeout with 3mins left. (that's on CP3 imo) DA went to his right hook which he shows can be decent last year. Again he missed but my issue is just Why 9mins
You can think whatever of Ayton and I surely have my frustrations with him but last night the whole starting 5 execution was trash (and shooting). Didn't think we played very good/smart ball in the 1st at all

Yes, I did watch most of the game. He dribbled a lot more than he used to, and I liked his activity trying to get to the offensive boards. I think when he's missing shots he passes more than he should, but he definitely held onto the ball and dribbled more before passing rather than just passing immediately. Again, even with his passing the ball, he still put up the second most field goal attempts on the team.

I only defend him when he's being unfairly maligned. The hyper-critical focus on DA is what is getting tiring. Nobody does that with Booker or Bridges or even Chris Paul.
Don't you think it would get tiring if I started calling Booker "Mr. Supermax" every time he shoots 35% from the field?

Lemme know when Ayton makes an all-star game, or wins a gold medal, or is the best player on a team, of makes an all NBA team or literally has any accomplishments aside from being the dude who went first over a perennial MVP candidate. Dude is getting paid superstar money and we'll, isn't one.
Let's get in the habit of evaluating Ayton according to 8- or 10-game blocks. We know that he turns it on and turns it off throughout the course of the season. It will be interesting to see if he can keep it on for long blocks.
My sense is that he'll improve his on-off ratio to 75-25 from the current 40-60. Can't expect him to go full-on 110% Garnett all the time.
I didn’t watch the game, but I’m not gonna get worked up about Ayton’s activity level in a preseason game. He did look very good in game 1. If he’s consistently low energy in the regular season, then I’ll worry.

Nope, superstar money is the supermax.

Ok bud, do any and everything to fit your Ayton narratives. If I didn't know any better I'd say you were Deandre himself at this point.

It's just a business reality in today's NBA. How many players making max money are superstars? If they're a true superstar, they're usually making the supermax. That's what it's there for.
