I do wonder if having a young coach who is willing to adjust and not old balls Bud or Vogel will help give Booker options when the teams are trapping and pressing him instead of having him trying to do it himself. I have such absurdly high hopes for Ott because he seems like a basketball sicko.
Love, Hurts.

Can Jalen Green really be any worse of a passer than KD was here? Maybe I'm being too optimistic.

KD was god awful. The laziest passes always picked easily by the defender.

Not sure if worse is possible.

Hoping Ott can install something similar to what the Cavs had with Garland and Mitchell in the backcourt. The less amount of time Book and Green are pounding the ball, the better.

Cautiously optimistic about NHD. He looks smaller than listed, probably closer to 6-7 230 but the length and quickness are there. He played a season with the Knicks GLeague team before going overseas. Has a lot of experience with one of the better clubs in Europe, played in big games and can hopefully bring a veteran presence since we're going a bit younger now. If he can be this year's Yabusele, it's definitely a win.

Looking at the roster now, there still must be a handful of moves in the pipeline. There's just not enough minutes to go around for everyone.

Starters:
Booker
Green
Dunn
Fleming
Williams

First bench unit:
Beal
Allen
Brooks
Royce
Malauch

End of the bench:
Gillespie
Brea
NHD
Oso
Richards

I can't imagine that NHD would sign here to sit the bench. and Richards and Oso are both obviously good enough for 15-20 minutes a game. Brea can develop in the G League, and Gillespie should get 10-15 minutes/game. I think we'll see at least one of Royce and Grayson traded for low picks and an expiring bench contract, and hopefully someone will take Beal too, or he just stays home.

I think it's premature to plug any of the rooks into the rotation or a starting spot right now. Can't assume anything with them until we at least see them in SL. Royce or Grayson will be gone. Gambo says Beal is gone. Richards may or may not be moved depending on what Maluach shows or Ott says he can use Oso consistently as a high post 5. The roster needs to be shaken out for sure, just gotta see how it unfolds.

Do we really think they will start Fleming? I like the guy a lot, but it's hard for a rookie to come straight into the NBA and play starter's minutes. Especially coming from a lower division school like Fleming did. It isn't that I doubt him, I just don't want to set him up with too much pressure right away.

I bet they start Dillon Brooks instead of Fleming at first, just because he is a veteran presence. And I was assuming that they were going to get Beal out of there by a buyout or trade. Here is what I was thinking the lineups would be:

Starters: Booker, Green, Dunn, Brooks, Williams
Bench: Gillespie, Allen, Royce, Oso, Richards
Development / end-of-bench: Malauch, Brea, Fleming, NHD

That lineup is still a little skewed. It seems like we'd be starving most of our new guys for minutes. So I was expecting that maybe Royce or Allen will be on the move. If one of them is gone, that would make time for new players like NHD and Fleming. And if we move Richards, that would slide Oso into the backup C slot above.

I guess my point is that I think we may be overestimating how many minutes the rooks are going to play. I think they're still very young and raw and may be brought along slowly. We'll see.

I agree on Fleming not starting, but I think the rooks will play. For instance, I don’t think Richards/oso will be ahead of Maluach on the depth chart. I also don’t think NHD left the best team in Europe to be a development piece…I think he’s in the rotation for sure.

Here’s where I think we are at:

Guard Rotation:

1. Devin Booker
2. Jalen Green

3. Grayson Allen
4. Collin Gillespie

Leaving Beal off for now as I don’t expect him here.

Forward:

1. Dillon Brooks
2. Ryan Dunn
3. Royce O’Neale
4. Nigel Hayes-Davis
5. Rasheer Fleming

2nd starter TBD right now

Center

1. Mark Williams
2. Khaman Maluach
3. Oso Ighodaro

Left Richards off as I think he’s gone too.

I’d still like to feel better about a starting PF. I think we can still pretty easily move off Grayson or Royce for some more size as well. Most of our forwards still feel like 3s more than 4s. Fleming is the only true 4.

I’d also prefer to have a veteran ball handler on the roster. Doesn’t have to be someone who will play regularly, but would be nice to have. If you ditch Grayson, you probably have some guard minutes you can fill.

Anyways, let’s see what happens with Beal.

Hot take: this team will be better than last year but at least 8 games.

I don’t know if they’re 8 games better, but I think they could flirt with the 8 seed/play-in, but will be 10x more enjoyable to watch without more consistent effort.

Would that be 44 wins? How many did we win last year? Haha

I could see this team winning 40. I think we are right there with Sacramento, maybe Memphis. Spurs probably pass us. Maybe Portland. Will wait to see what other changes happen, but probably fighting for a play-in.

I think more importantly, we will play hard and not drive me crazy. Also we will have fun young players to hope for.

Yeah, and no way both Green and Brooks aren't starting. They were 2/5 of the Rocket's starting lineup.

Here is the very latest on the Bradley Beal situation:

Here’s an idea I saw that I’m sure isn’t legal haha:

Have Beal decline his PO, sign him to a 3 year extension for the same money he declined(57 million) then waive and stretch his now 4 year 110 million dollar contract over 9 years. Would be about 12 million a year. Maybe be even gives back 15-20 million still and cut that to 10 million a year.

I just do not believe that the Suns will crush 20m+ in cap space for 5 years to stretch Beal. I think he returns.
