Giddey grabs 7-8 boards a game, has a much improved 3 ball and can be our floor general on offense and plug in at SF on D next to Book and Green. I would love love love to grab a younger guy like that.
Isn't that Ryan and/or Dillon's job? With Green and Book needing the ball I'm not sure adding another guard that needs the ball is what we should be looking for. I think we need guys that can finish. Though an argument can be made we just need to acquire more talent period.

I'm not convinced Green or Book should be our floor general but this FO seems committed to both of them. I think Giddey would complement them well. He could play PG on offense and has the size to not make it a three guard lineup. He shot 38% from 3 last year, steadily improving each year since he entered the league.

If you have someone who rebounds as well as he does at the 3, we could probably slot Brooks in fine at the 4 most nights.

Ryan hasn't done anything in this league yet. He hasn't shown me he can be anything more than a Matisse thybulle which is an 8th man. I'm not shutting talent out because we "already have Ryan Dunn." The odds are higher that he will never be good enough offensively to play consistent starter level minutes on a winning team, than the odds of him drastically improving his offensive abilities. He shot less than 50% from the FT line- he's got a LONG uphill battle.

Giddey is already good and has a chance to be really, really good. And unlike Dunn, despite his offensive shortcomings coming into the league- he's always been a serviceable FT shooter.

IMO we are talking about multiple different things. It's fine with me if the Suns want to keep or acquire veteran rotation players, rather than going out of their way to clear out vets so that rookies like Maluach or Fleming can play big minutes. I agree that throwing rookies into too big a role too soon can be bad for everyone. And I also agree that we have no incentive to "tank" because we don't have our own picks. I would be fine with signing guys like CP3 to short-term contracts if they'd come here.

BUT, I draw the line at throwing away future picks and assets to be more competitive this coming season. Don't trade away two future 1sts just to get one year of a veteran center when we already have 2-3 other centers on the roster. Don't stretch Beal so far out that we will have trouble clearing cap space 4-5 years from now. Don't use the cap space gained by stretching Beal to just sign even more vets to bloated multi-year contracts just because we can.

I am advocating for a "try to get as many wins as you possibly can without mortgaging the future" approach. That is not the approach we seem to be going with. Time will tell which one is the better choice.
I’m not thrilled about the decision to use up 3 1sts on two centers, but we should be honest about the situation. “two future 1sts just to get one year of a veteran center,” is not exactly fair. Mark Williams is 23 and, when healthy, is a very good center. The two 1sts were bad 1sts(29th pick in this draft where we absolutely would have taken Rasheer Fleming, who we got anyways…and a future worst of Utah/CLE/Minny pick that will definitely be late 1st). Those picks really aren’t much and I’m not worried about losing them…the only worry is that we now can’t trade a 1st if another, better opportunity comes along. We also have full control of Williams future…this isn’t a 1 year situation.

Anyways…I just think you put too much value on a 29th pick…we literally just traded 2 2nds to get the same player we would’ve drafted at 29. We basically traded 4 2nds for Mark Williams…that’s less than Jae Crowder got.

I like Giddey. He has far above-average playmaking and BBIQ and he seems like a guy who just helps a team play smarter. It was unfortunate that he got tangled up in his scandal and investigation. But he seems to have been cleared of wrongdoing, and I am swayed positively toward being sympathetic to him given that the young woman and her family seem supportive of him and not interested in seeing him get into trouble.

In terms of the fit here, I would worry that we already have both Brooks and Dunn who play the 3. How would we juggle between the three of them? I don't like either of Brooks or Dunn at the 4. I would be more supportive of bringing in Giddey if we shipped out one of the two existing SFs to get him. Hopefully Brooks because I don't like Brooks being on this team.

That Gambo post was essentially written by Suns BOps/PR. I hope we don't trade any unfrozen picks, tho I wonder if that's in the plans.

I agree about not wanting to half-ass compete. I'd rather see the young guys play hard and win 32 games, develop a real core and shake the roster out of guys who don't belong. Better that than bringing in some band-aid vets so we can win 38 games as some mid play-in team going nowhere but claim victory because we're "competitive" so soon. I guess I wouldn't mind Collins since he's an ending contract but I don't want some journeymen/mercenaries coming in like we had in the early 2010s. That doesn't mean I want to tank either, just want this built up properly so that when the *right* guy comes along via trade or FA, we're there to pounce and take that next step.
I agree with this. My guess, based on nothing really, other than their public statements and behavior, is that the FO really wants the team to be as good and as competitive next season as possible. I think they want to show Durant/Beal that we can be even better without them, and show the doubters / haters that they are doing well at putting together a strong team and didn't "blow it" for the present or future of the franchise by trading away so many picks and assets. I really don't mind if they try to be competitive, so long as they don't trade away (any more) future picks to do so.

That's probably the biggest beef I have with the FO right now, that they traded two 1sts to get Williams who IMO we didn't need. I would rather go the other way and trade away some of our guys who can net us picks, like Grayson or Royce.
Huh? You really think they care what KD and Beal think? I don't. They failed. Move on.

I much prefer just eating the contact for two years and utilizing 2026-2027 to develop Dunn, Maluach, Fleming (maybe even Green), and then getting a huge chunk of salary cap to use to improve the roster in Summer 2027.

I think the team as is could grow together and chase a playoff bid in the interim, and re-develop some sense of unity and culture that we had with Mikal/Cam/Book/DA that all great teams possess. And then once Beal is off the books, we might be able to afford a missing piece in free agency to push the team to the next level. I recognize FA isn't what it used to be, but valuable players still do hit the market (Turner).
This is the way.
Which is exactly why Ishbia and Co. will continue to borrow from the future and stretch this cap hit for 5 years. Short sighted is the theme of this regime.
Hey, that rhymes!

Speaking of Brooks & Dunn, are they going to be the Phoenix Suns official musical act next season?

Kids these days wear hoodies no matter the temperature, but I can't imagine getting off the plane in Phoenix straight into the sun wearing a black hoodie like that.

Maybe it was cold on the plane. I'm sure he took it off quickly! I went outside today. Not pleasant!

I don’t think this is finalized yet…I’d wait for Shams to report it…it also won’t be 150 million anymore as the cap numbers have dropped a bit.

Good to know. And good idea. Seems like Sidery is trying to get ahead of the official announcements by just posting what is likely. We'll see how his numbers stack up. Might have to start avoiding the bot.

Remember when Mike Conley was the leagues highest paid player for a year? This won't last, good for him.
