Re: Muluach article ...
He is a project, and it may take a year or two until he 'gets it' if he ever does.
One concern is that he puts up stats in G-League, but does not dominate.
I've seen several games where his defensive play is lackadaisical.
It's like he looks at G-League as scrimmaging that doesn't count for much.
That's a bit troubling ...
A fun team to watch again. A trade or two away from being a serious contender...
Just not getting the best vibes about man man…. Had hoped he would have been showing some promise by now.
Like I look at stoudamire…. The dude came out of hs, looked a little raw the first season at times but I feel that exposure is what made him raise his game and become as good as he was. I don’t think putting man man in g league is the most conducive to his development. Sometimes throwing people into the fire is the best way to see where they are or aren’t.
I don't think the Amar'e comp is fair. STAT was unique in his aggressiveness and physical readiness. If you are waiting to see that in rookies, you're going to wait a long time.
I'll add that STAT was old coming out of high school. Even with a year of college, Man Man is still playing his rookie season a year younger than Amar'e did.
Plus, we are asking more out of Man Man. He has to anchor the defense, guard the 3pt line, shoot the 3, screen, roll, pop, dunk, and so on. Maluach has to be a complete basketball player. He has a ton more to learn.
Amar'e was not asked to play center and anchor a defense until later in his career. He wasn't asked to switch out and guard the 3pt line until later. All he had to do was stick with the opposing team's worst big in an era when every team had a big who couldn't score. On offense, all rookie STAT had to do was screen and dunk. He didn't start shooting until his second season.
Time will tell with Maluach but it is a little concerning. With our lack of draft picks for the near future, it was important that we hit on this pick. We had the luxury of four centers to start the season and Richards couldn't even get in the rotation. I love the kid's attitude and intelligence and he certainly has the physical attributes but not every project center pans out as the article laid out. Here's hoping but I'm not going to hold my breath.
