Good breakdown on Weems.

I think this move spells the end of Archie. Time to give him a shot elsewhere.

I dunno. He's split his time almost equally between SF & SG during his career - it could mean Tucker is on the way out.OE32 wrote:I think this move spells the end of Archie. Time to give him a shot elsewhere.

Agree that he's a Tucker replacement, not necessarily an SG.

Or does this just mean bye bye Gerald Green?virtual9mm wrote:Agree that he's a Tucker replacement, not necessarily an SG.

LOL he's been gone in spirit for a full year now.
Re: Suns sign Sonny Weems
I just don't see how Archie fits - if, as Coro says, Weems is the first G off the bench, that pushes Archie to the bench - to sit next to the other SG we just drafted, with a higher pick, who fits more naturally next to our young SF because of his shooting, which is Archie's weakness. We also have Bogdan waiting in Europe. If Archie doesn't play this year, he doesn't play. He needs to go.

Tucker sucks. Average defender, ball stopper on offense and probably the worst case of hero ball I've ever seen in a player with so little offensive ability. +Criminal +Late multiple times.Superbone wrote:Whacha all have against my man, Tucker? He plays hard and gives it his all. Is it just the off court stuff?
I hadn't heard of Weems. How about a link to video of his play. I take it he's a SF?
Basically the only thing he does well is rebound.

Although a bit over exaggerated, I agree with most of this. It's just time for him to go.specialsauce wrote:Tucker sucks. Giving up on Cornerstone? Never!

At least this regime didn't sign another NBA dropout to a bloated 6-yr deal.Shabazz wrote: Love it! I've suggested it before and was actually going to post we should pursue him yesterday.
In case you don't know his game- Weems has been one of the best players in the Euroleague the last few years. He's a freak athlete whose shooting needs a little work, but he's a solid all around player.
Good move. Good insurance if we have to move Tucker.
The move has some upside if Weems returns to the NBA an improved player. I think he'll be a good guy for Booker to go against in practice.

Is that a joke? He's 20.INFORMER wrote:Long overdue.OE32 wrote:I think this move spells the end of Archie.

If the roster stays as is, I think we'll see a lot of Tucker at backup 4, which I'm very OK with.OE32 wrote:I think this move spells the end of Archie. Time to give him a shot elsewhere.
I don't think Booker is quite ready to come right into the rotation and contribute. I think Price spends most of his time on the bench.
That would leave Archie as the second guard off the bench. Possibly the first if Tucker shifts up a spot and we play Weems at the 3.
Re: Suns sign Sonny Weems
I assume this is from the obscure former nba player playing overseas part of the salary cap that has opened up now we're not paying Josh Childress any more. Or are we still paying him?
(I don't really know anything about Weems but given it's a team option on the 2nd year if seems a relatively low risk move)

As much as I respect Inf's take -- agree with the eyeroll here. Come on -- Archie still isn't old enough to drink. IMHO, he's entitled to at least another year to show that his shot and bbiq have both improved. Perhaps more (on a minimum contract).specialsauce wrote:

Re: Suns sign Sonny Weems
I like the move. At times he was too physically dominant in Europe, and managed to develop a little his 3pt shot.
After dumping Marcus there was space for one more decent wing and it also makes PJ more disposable.
Tucker should be shopped hard now.

Tucker would be perfect on a title contender. Weems is going to be a good signing.
One of the things that I would have really liked for the Suns to have was an excellent shooting coach. One that really understood how to change and develop a shot. Even though Archie was working with Hornacek, it doesn't seem that he's made as much progress as he should have. Weber was good, but Chip Engelland is the best. I could see Archie going to the Spurs and turning into a stud for them with the help of their coaches and system.

Re: Suns sign Sonny Weems
Archie went from 13% in his first year to 29% in his second - no small feat. Weems didn't get to 29% until his third year in the league - and he was older than Archie when he came into the league.
I think Archie has a really good chance to be a contributor in the NBA. I just don't think it'll be this year, and I don't think it will be with us. I think he needs to get a chance to prove himself and develop elsewhere.
I read earlier that there was "significant interest" in Archie around the league - don't remember where. I hope we can get a first rounder for him. But is he too much of a project to garner that kind of consideration? We'll see.
